Screen Rant has reported that Andor season 2 has restored a crucial Star Wars idea, initially conceived by George Lucas, which was later discarded in The Empire Strikes Back. According to the publication, the show has successfully revived the concept of the Everyman Hero, a character trope that was originally embodied by Luke Skywalker in A New Hope.
When Luke Skywalker was first introduced in A New Hope, he epitomized the Everyman Hero, being a relatable and down-to-earth character. However, this characterization was undone in The Empire Strikes Back, which revealed that Luke was not an ordinary individual, but rather the son of a powerful villain and a prominent Jedi. As Screen Rant notes, “The Empire Strikes Back completely undid that characterization of Luke in A New Hope by revealing Luke wasn’t ordinary at all.”
While this change was significant, it did not diminish Luke Skywalker’s role as a hero in Star Wars. The show has confirmed that Cassian had humble beginnings and no exceptional abilities or massive family lineage. He was simply a man driven to fight back against oppression and overthrow the Empire.
