Benefit Payment Dates to Change Over Bank Holiday Weekend
A number of benefit payments will be made earlier than usual over the upcoming bank holiday weekend, it has been confirmed. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has announced that payments due on Monday, May 26 will be made on Friday, May 23.
According to the Daily Record, the changes will affect people in receipt of the State Pension, Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Universal Credit, Adult Disability Payment (ADP), Attendance Allowance, Child Benefit, and other benefits. The DWP has confirmed that Jobcentres in Scotland, England, and Wales, along with phone lines, will be closed on Monday, May 26, but will open as usual from Tuesday, May 27.
The Daily Record reports that the DWP explained: “To make sure people get their payment on a day when our offices are open, arrangements have been made to make some payments early. If the expected payment date is Monday 26 May then benefits will be paid early on Friday 23 May.”
The changes will affect a wide range of benefits, including:

+ Employment Support Allowance (ESA)
+ Income Support
+ Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
+ Pension Credit
+ Personal Independence Payment (PIP)

+ Guardian’s Allowance
* Social Security Scotland payments:
+ Adult Disability Payment
+ Child Disability Payment
+ Scottish Child Payment
+ Carer Support Payment
+ Pension Age Disability Payment
It is worth noting that not all payments will be affected, and individuals should check with the relevant authority to confirm their payment date. Social Security Scotland has confirmed that Best Start Foods payments will not be affected.
The Daily Record reports that individuals can check the expected payment dates for their benefits on the government website or by contacting the relevant authority.
In related news, the DWP has announced plans to review State Pension, PIP, and four other benefits for fraud or errors this year. Additionally, individuals can top up their bank balance by winning a share of £2,000.
