Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz Transfer Saga: Bayern Munich’s €100m Offer
In a developing story, German football giants Bayern Munich have reportedly agreed to a deal with Bayer Leverkusen’s highly sought-after midfielder, Florian Wirtz. According to sources, Wirtz, 22, has given his word to join the Bavarians, but the sticking point remains the transfer fee.
Bild newspaper exclusively revealed last Friday that Bayern Munich had reached an agreement with Wirtz over a potential switch. Now, SPORT1 reports that Bayer AG, Leverkusen’s parent company, has given the club’s bosses, Fernando Carro and Simon Rolfes, the green light to negotiate a sale. However, there’s a significant condition: the transfer fee must be at least €150 million.
As Bild reports, Carro initially stated this price tag in April 2024, and although he later apologized for his bold claim, he never retracted the figure. Leverkusen’s hierarchy is understood to have the full backing of Bayer AG in holding firm on this valuation.
The question remains whether Bayern Munich are willing to meet this valuation. According to sources, the German champions are exploring two possible scenarios. The first involves presenting Leverkusen with an offer of around €100 million this summer.
In the second scenario, Bayern and Leverkusen fail to agree on a transfer this summer, and Wirtz has allegedly agreed to wait another year before making the move to Munich. This would force Leverkusen to sell the midfielder in the summer of 2026 to recoup a transfer fee, as he would be contract-free and available on a free transfer in 2027.
Bild understands that Leverkusen’s hierarchy is optimistic about retaining Wirtz’s services for another season. After the 2-4 loss to Borussia Dortmund on Sunday, Rolfes stated confidently: “We have clear statements from the family. Therefore, we are relaxed.” The sporting director is working hard to ensure Wirtz remains at the BayArena for the upcoming campaign, acknowledging that there is considerable interest from other clubs.
Carro, meanwhile, expressed his own sentiments, suggesting that Wirtz’s future is far from certain. “With Florian, it’s like this: the important thing is, regardless of whether the solution is to stay here or go somewhere else, we all need to feel comfortable.” Rolfes tips the scales at 60:40 in favour of Wirtz staying at Leverkusen.
As Bild previously reported, Wirtz’s potential transfer to Bayern Munich could hinge on the club’s willingness to meet Leverkusen’s valuation. With the midfielder’s future still uncertain, one thing is clear: the coming weeks will be crucial in determining the next stage of Wirtz’s career.
