Arminia Bielefeld Fans Receive Free Condoms as Part of City-Wide Promotion
The city of Bielefeld is in a state of frenzy as the local football team, Arminia Bielefeld, prepares to take on VfB Stuttgart in the German Cup final. According to Bild.de, the team’s coach, Mitch Kniat, has revealed that many fans, including those in their 60s, have taken time off work to celebrate the occasion.
“It’s not just the fans who are excited, the whole city is buzzing,” Kniat told Bild.de. “I’ve had 60- and 65-year-old Arminen approach me and say that this is going to be the best day of their lives. They’ve even taken time off work – I think nobody’s working in Bielefeld this week.”
The city’s businesses have also got in on the action, with many launching special promotions and offers. Bild.de reports that several large companies in Bielefeld have come up with creative stunts, including chocolate sprinkles in the team’s colours, free shirts, and even a giant XXXXL jersey draped over the Hermannsdenkmal monument.
One company that has caught attention is local condom manufacturer “Ritex”, which has released a special edition of condoms with the slogan “Bielefeld kommt” (Bielefeld is coming). According to Natalie Fiedel, a spokesperson for Ritex, the company couldn’t resist getting involved in the celebrations. “We couldn’t let this opportunity pass us by,” she told Bild.de.
The free condoms will be given out at the public viewing in Bielefeld around the Jahnplatz and at the fan festival in Berlin on the Alexanderplatz. As Bild.de notes, the condoms are likely to be a hit with fans looking to celebrate the occasion in style.
The city’s marketing efforts have also extended to Berlin, where the team’s fans are known to be enthusiastic. Bild.de reports that the city’s marketing team has plastered the capital with posters and slogans, including “Württemberg geht baden” (Württemberg is going down) and “Stuttgart gibt’s gar nicht” (Stuttgart doesn’t exist), a reference to the conspiracy theory that Bielefeld is nonexistent.
The team’s main sponsor, Schüco, has also got in on the action, distributing posters with the slogan “Berlins heißester Club: Arminia Bielefeld” (Berlin’s hottest club: Arminia Bielefeld). As Bild.de notes, the team’s fans are known for their creativity, and the current promotions are just the latest example of this.
The excitement surrounding the match is not limited to the fans, with the team itself getting in on the action. Bild.de reports that the team has put up numerous posters around the city, including one that reads “Unterschätzt uns ruhig – haben die Römer auch gemacht” (Underestimate us, just like the Romans did). This is a reference to the Battle of Teutoburg Forest, in which Arminius led the Germanic tribes to a surprise victory over the Romans.
The match between Arminia Bielefeld and VfB Stuttgart is set to take place at 20:00 local time, with live coverage on ZDF and Sky. Bild.de will also provide live updates on the match.
The promotion put on by local condom company Ritex shows just how far fans and local businesses will go in order show support for their team. The huge build up shows just how massive an event this match really is.
In related news, several images have surfaced online showcasing just how zany Bielefeld fans can really get. One such image shows numerous Bielefeld related adverts plastered accross Berlin.
Bielefeld fans all over Berlin with Bielefeld themed material can and will bee seen driving accross the city. Fans seem determined not to let Bild.de be the only ones providing coverage and use #BielefeldKommt to talk all things #ArminiaBielefeld on social networking platforms.
