Botafogo in Talks to Sign Serbian Striker Luka Jović
According to reports from Fogaonet, Brazilian football club Botafogo is in negotiations to sign Serbian centre-forward Luka Jović, 27, from Italian giants AC Milan. The move is seen as a key signing to strengthen the team’s attack following the departure of Igor Jesus.
The Fogaonet report, citing sources close to the club, states that there is optimism surrounding the talks. Jović, who has previously played for Real Madrid and the Serbian national team, is considered the club’s top target due to the fact that he would join Botafogo on a free transfer, as his contract with Milan is set to expire on June 30.
In comparison, another target, Arthur Cabral of Benfica, would require a significant investment of €10 million, plus an additional €5 million in performance-related bonuses. Fogaonet reports that Botafogo is accelerating the process to secure at least one of these two centre-forwards ahead of the Super Mundial de Clubes, which kicks off next week.
Jović’s recent form has been limited, with the player making just 17 appearances for Milan in the 2024/2025 season, scoring four goals. However, his impressive career trajectory, which includes stints at Red Star Belgrade, Benfica, Eintracht Frankfurt, Real Madrid, and Fiorentina, suggests that he has the potential to make a significant impact at Botafogo.
The proposed signing of Jović would be a significant coup for Botafogo, who are looking to bolster their squad ahead of the upcoming tournament. As Fogaonet notes, the Serbian striker’s experience and quality would be a valuable addition to the team.
As the transfer window heats up, Botafogo fans will be eagerly anticipating the confirmation of Jović’s signing. With the club’s management working tirelessly to secure top talent, it remains to be seen whether Jović will don the Botafogo jersey in the coming weeks. One thing is certain, however, as Fogaonet reports, the club is making every effort to bring in top-class reinforcements to enhance their chances of success in the Super Mundial de Clubes.
