Bribery Scandal: Trio Held in Blu-3, Mace Probe

Three Arrested in Blu-3 and Mace Bribery Probe

A significant investigation into alleged bribery has led to the arrest of three individuals, with the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) targeting infrastructure specialist Blu-3 and former associates of the Mace Group. According to sources, individuals at Blu-3 are suspected of paying over £3m of bribes to people linked to Mace, as reported by the Construction Enquirer.

The SFO’s probe has resulted in the arrest of three individuals, who were taken in for questioning. More than 70 SFO staff were involved in the operation, searching four homes and one commercial property across London, Kent, Surrey, and Somerset. Authorities in Monaco also participated in the joint investigation, searching a suspect’s premises as part of the inquiry into bribes allegedly paid to secure a European data centre contract.

The Construction Enquirer has learned that the SFO’s action is part of a broader effort to tackle bribery and corruption. Solicitor General Lucy Rigby, who attended one of the arrests in North London, emphasised the government’s commitment to tackling all forms of bribery. "As part of our Plan for Change, this Government is committed to tackling all forms of bribery to protect working people and ensure criminals are brought to justice," she said.

Nick Ephgrave, director of the Serious Fraud Office, also commented on the investigation. "Paying bribes to do business undermines our financial markets, the reputation of British companies and the rule of law and will not be tolerated," he stated. "Today’s action is a reminder that we will take rapid and robust action to tackle suspected bribery and corruption wherever it appears – at home and overseas."

Mace has responded to the allegations, stating that they have a zero-tolerance approach to breaches of their code of ethics. A spokesman for Mace said: "Mace has a zero tolerance approach to breaches of our code of ethics and takes any allegations of bribery extremely seriously. We are committed to fully supporting the Serious Fraud Office in investigating allegations against any former associates of the group."

The Construction Enquirer has been informed that the investigation is ongoing, with the SFO working to gather evidence and determine the extent of the alleged bribery. As the probe continues, it is clear that the authorities are taking a strong stance against corruption and bribery in the construction industry. The SFO’s actions demonstrate a commitment to upholding the law and protecting the reputation of British companies.

In a statement, the SFO emphasised the importance of tackling bribery and corruption. "Bribery and corruption can have a corrosive effect on business and society as a whole," a spokesperson said. "The SFO is dedicated to investigating and prosecuting cases of bribery and corruption, and we will continue to work with our partners to tackle this issue."
