Carvalhal Leaves Braga: What’s Next for the Renowned Coach?

SC Braga Parts Ways with Carlos Carvalhal by Mutual Agreement

In a statement released earlier today, SC Braga announced that Carlos Carvalhal has stepped down as manager of the club’s first team, with the decision being made by mutual agreement. Alongside Carvalhal, the club’s assistant coaches, João Mário, Filipe Antunes, João Meireles, and Tiago Pires, will also be leaving.

According to SC Braga’s official statement, Carvalhal is the club’s most successful manager in terms of victories, with 92 wins in 167 official matches. His tenure at the club will be remembered for his triumph in the 2020/21 Taça de Portugal, which was achieved during the club’s centenary year.

In reaction to Carvalhal’s departure, SC Braga’s President, António Salvador, paid tribute to the manager’s “courage” during a challenging period for the club. As quoted in the official SC Braga statement, Salvador said: “I would like to thank Carlos Carvalhal and his technical team for the work they have done, their dedication to the project, and the great collaboration we have had throughout the season. I recognise and praise the courage he showed during a difficult time for SC Braga, and I am personally grateful for that. Our understanding that we need to start a new cycle with new technical leadership does not conflict with the enormous appreciation we have for Carlos Carvalhal and the merit of the work done for the club, which is undeniable and will endure.”

Carvalhal himself was equally optimistic about his departure, stating that he had “fulfilled” his mission at the club. As SC Braga’s official website reported, Carvalhal said: “I accepted this difficult mission out of love for SC Braga and my relationship with President António Salvador, which spans decades. I come to the end of this journey with a sense of mission accomplished, and I thank everyone who supported us throughout the season.”

During his time at SC Braga, Carvalhal established himself as one of the club’s most successful managers. His victory in the Taça de Portugal in 2021 will be remembered as one of the highlights of his tenure. The club’s decision to part ways with Carvalhal appears to be a strategic move, with the aim of starting a new cycle under fresh leadership.

SC Braga’s announcement has sent shockwaves through the football community, with many fans and pundits alike reflecting on Carvalhal’s achievements at the club. As the club looks to the future, it remains to be seen who will succeed Carvalhal as manager and what the implications will be for the team’s performance in the upcoming season.

The departure of Carvalhal and his coaching staff marks the end of an era at SC Braga. As the club continues to evolve and grow, fans will be eagerly anticipating the next chapter in the club’s history. According to SC Braga’s official statement, the club will be looking to build on the foundations laid by Carvalhal and his team, with a renewed focus on developing new talent and achieving success in domestic and European competitions.
