Celtic Eye Cut-Price Move for 16-Goal Sweden International
Celtic are reportedly targeting a cut-price move for Sweden international Benjamin Nygren, who is out of contract in six months. According to Celtic Way, the 23-year-old is on Brendan Rodgers’ radar and could be available for as little as £2 million.
Nygren currently plies his trade for Danish top-tier outfit Nordsjaelland, where he has been in impressive form. As reported by Celtic Way, the Swedish forward has excelled playing as a number 10, but he can also operate on the left or right wing. In 32 Nordsjaelland appearances last season, Nygren scored 16 goals and assisted four, helping his team finish fifth in the Superligaen.
The Scottish Premiership champions are said to face competition from the likes of Anderlecht and Copenhagen to sign the creative forward. However, Nygren’s contract situation could give Celtic the upper hand. As Celtic Way reports, the 23-year-old has confirmed that he won’t renew his contract at Nordsjaelland, which expires at the end of the calendar year.
Nygren has also registered four Sweden caps, scoring twice for his country. His impressive form has caught the attention of Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers, who is reportedly keen to bring him to Parkhead. As Celtic Way notes, Celtic have been linked with a raft of players over the past 24 hours, including Callum Osmand, Nilson Angulo, Sondre Orjasaeter, and Michel-Ange Balikwisha.
Celtic Way understands that Nygren’s availability could be a major coup for Rodgers’ side. The Scottish Premiership champions are known for their shrewd business dealings, and signing Nygren on a cut-price deal could prove to be a masterstroke. As Celtic Way reports, the Hoops are keen to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season, and Nygren could be an excellent addition.
In a boost for Celtic, Nygren’s contract situation makes him a more attractive proposition. With the Swedish forward out of contract in six months, Celtic could negotiate a pre-contract agreement with him. As Celtic Way notes, this would allow him to join the club on a free transfer in the summer, or Celtic could negotiate a cut-price deal with Nordsjaelland to bring him in during the January transfer window. Whatever the case, it seems that Celtic are keen to bring Nygren to Parkhead, and the Swedish forward could be an excellent addition to Rodgers’ squad.
