Celtic Eyeing Bargain Transfer for Swedish Star Benjamin Nygren
According to a report from the Daily Record, Celtic are interested in signing Swedish international Benjamin Nygren from Danish side Nordsjaelland in the summer transfer window. The 23-year-old playmaker has impressed with his performances for both club and country, and Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is reportedly keen on bringing him to Parkhead.
Nygren joined Nordsjaelland from Genk in 2022 and has since established himself as a key player for the Danish side. Last season, he registered 16 goals and four assists, earning a place in the Superliga Team of the Year. The former IFK Goteborg player has also made a strong start to his international career, scoring two goals in his first three caps for Sweden.
As reported by the Daily Record, Nygren’s current contract with Nordsjaelland runs out at the end of December, and he has revealed that he will not be renewing his deal. This has sparked speculation that his club may look to sell him this summer to avoid losing him for free in January. Celtic are said to be keeping close tabs on the player, but they will face stiff competition from Anderlecht and Copenhagen.
Celtic are in need of attacking reinforcements this summer, and Nygren is one of several targets being considered by Rodgers. The Daily Record has previously revealed that the Premiership champions retain an interest in Motherwell sensation Lennon Miller, who is also wanted by clubs right across Europe. Reports elsewhere claim that Celtic are also still keen on Sarpsborg winger Sondre Ørjasæter, who was a target back in January.
The Daily Record understands that Celtic are also eyeing Telstar frontman Youssef El Kachati, who is out of contract next month. However, the Dutchman has suggested that he will extend his stay with Telstar after helping them win promotion to the Eredivisie.
According to the Daily Record, Celtic’s interest in Nygren is part of a broader strategy to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season. The club has already made one signing this summer, with Kieran Tierney returning to Parkhead from Arsenal on a free transfer. Young Fulham striker Callum Osmand is also having a medical ahead of a move to Celtic.
As the summer transfer window heats up, Celtic fans will be eager to see which players Rodgers brings in to bolster his squad. With Nygren, Miller, Ørjasæter, and El Kachati all being linked with moves to Parkhead, there is plenty for the Hoops to consider.
The Daily Record reports that Rodgers is keen on adding quality and depth to his squad, and Nygren’s impressive form for Nordsjaelland and Sweden suggests that he could be a shrewd signing. As the Daily Record notes, “Celtic are reportedly keen on a summer transfer for Nordsjaelland playmaker Benjamin Nygren.”
Celtic’s interest in the player was revealed after Nygren’s impressive performance for Sweden, where he scored in a 2-0 win against Hungary. As noted by the Daily Record, Nygren “made his senior international bow earlier this year and took his tally to two goals from his first three caps with a strike in an impressive 2-0 win against Hungary last week.”
Nygren’s potential move to Celtic could be an exciting development for the club and its fans, and it will be interesting to see how the transfer window unfolds. As reported by the Daily Record, “Attacking reinforcements will be high on Celtic’s transfer wish list this summer.”
