Celtic Ultras Slam ‘Outsourced’ Tifos Amid Fan Ban

Celtic Fans Urged Not to Participate in Stadium Display After Ultras Tifos Are Banned

Celtic fans are being urged not to take part in a stadium display today, as ultras tifos have not been allowed in. The Green Brigade, a supporters group, have stated that a fan-organised display has been “banned” and an “outsourced” club-sanctioned display is planned instead.

According to The Scottish Sun, the Green Brigade took to social media to make the announcement, posting a picture from behind the scenes within the Parkhead stadium. The post read: “Fan tifos banned, outsourced tifos planned.”

The Scottish Sun understands that such displays have been a point of contention recently, particularly after a Rangers “rebel scum” image of Graeme Souness was hung out before the Old Firm earlier this month. Questions were asked about how an “unacceptable” banner of that scale, condemned by the club, made it into the ground.

In response, Rangers stated: “We also acknowledge that the tifo displayed prior to kick-off crossed a line and was unacceptable. Our approach to supporter displays has always been built on trust, with the responsibility placed on groups to exercise good judgement.”

However, it appears that Celtic fans are not happy with the decision to ban ultras tifos. Hoops fans were also warned by the club ahead of today not to gather in numbers at unofficial title parties, as another city centre takeover is planned in similar style to the last few years.

Many fans have taken to social media to express their discontent at the supposed ban, with some stating they won’t be taking any part in the club-sanctioned flag waving. One fan wrote: “A slap in the face to the groups who put the dedication and organisation into these displays throughout the season. Keep your flag under the seat.”

Others have expressed similar sentiments, with one fan stating: “They’ve taken this too far. The most out of touch thing they’ve ever done,” while another added: “We’ll be throwing whatever they’ve put on our seats onto the pitch.” A comment on social media said: “Massive own goal by the club. The Celtic board needs to embrace ultra culture, not kick against it.”

Historically, large-scale tifos have been funded by the fans and organised by the Green Brigade, with many being iconic. Fans are now questioning why the club is removing this opportunity from them, particularly given what the team has achieved and what fans have spent.

As The Scottish Sun reports, not everyone will agree on the divisive subject, but it is clear that many do not back the idea. Another fan stated: “Why now, given what the team has achieved and what fans have spent, are those in charge removing that opportunity from us? I hope fans refuse to take part.”

The situation highlights the ongoing debate about fan involvement and club sanctioning of supporter displays. As the news spreads, fans will be watching with interest to see how the situation unfolds.
