Chelsea Shift Focus Away from Alejandro Garnacho to Jamie Gittens
In a recent development in the transfer market, Chelsea have reportedly cooled their interest in Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho, instead focusing on Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens as their top target for the summer transfer window.
According to a report by The Chelsea Chronicle, citing information from CaughtOffside, Chelsea had previously been strongly linked with Garnacho, but have now shifted their attention to Gittens. The 20-year-old English winger has enjoyed a strong season in the German Bundesliga with Dortmund, making 47 appearances, scoring 12 goals, and providing 5 assists.
Gittens’ impressive form has made him a sought-after talent, with Chelsea reportedly making him their top target for the summer. The report adds that Chelsea’s focus on Gittens comes despite previous contact over signing Garnacho.
Alejandro Garnacho, 20, has been enjoying an impressive individual campaign at Manchester United, with 56 appearances, 11 goals, and 10 assists across all competitions in the 2024/25 season. However, it seems that Chelsea are no longer pursuing a move for the Argentine attacker.
Jamie Gittens’ release clause this summer will be determined by where Dortmund finish in the German league. The winger’s clause will be around €60m (£51m) if Dortmund sneak into the Champions League positions, but it could drop as low as €50m (£42m) in a worst-case scenario for the Bundesliga giants.
Chelsea are favourites to sign Jamie Gittens, who has expressed his desire to play in the Premier League for the first time in his career. Gittens possesses the pace, skill, and directness on the left wing to be an exciting addition for Chelsea if they decide to ramp up their interest.
However, a concern for Chelsea is that they continue to avoid bringing in experienced professionals to help all the emerging youngsters.
In Borussia Dortmund’s last 10 games, Gittens’ playing time has been limited, with some speculation that this may be due to the club’s expectation of selling him at the end of the season.
The Chelsea Chronicle reported earlier that Chelsea are looking to make significant moves in the transfer market this summer.
