Chris Pine in Talks to Star in Lionsgate’s ‘Run The Night’

Chris Pine to Star in and Produce Lionsgate’s Action Film ‘Run the Night’

A new action film, Run the Night, starring and produced by Chris Pine, has been acquired by Lionsgate in a deal for worldwide rights, reports Deadline. The movie, which centres on a banker accused of betraying the Dutch mob, was dumped naked in the heart of Amsterdam with a $10 million bounty on his head.

According to Deadline, the story follows the banker’s desperate fight for survival as he is hunted by the city’s most violent gangs. With a ticking clock to save the lives of his wife and child, he must navigate the treacherous streets of Amsterdam by dawn, revealing a more complex character than initially thought. As Deadline notes, "he was never just the money guy."

Veteran second unit director Robert Alonzo will make his feature debut directing Run the Night, from a script by John Glenn and Alex Davidson, based on a story by Glenn. The film will be produced by Todd Lieberman and Alex Young for Hidden Pictures, alongside Pine and Ian Gotler, via their Barry Linen banner, and Glenn. Lorenzo De Maio and Evan Gelb of De Maio Entertainment are also producing, with James Myers overseeing the project for Lionsgate. Dan Freedman negotiated the deal on behalf of the studio, as reported by Deadline.

For Chris Pine, Run the Night adds to his growing slate of projects. Recent credits include Don’t Worry Darling, his directorial debut Poolman, and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Among his other upcoming projects is the indie crime thriller Nowhere Fast from Fargo‘s Noah Hawley. As Deadline was first to report, Pine’s involvement in Run the Night marks a significant addition to his production slate.

The acquisition of Run the Night by Lionsgate marks a strategic move by the studio to bolster its slate of action films. With Chris Pine at the helm, the movie is expected to draw significant attention from fans of the genre. As noted by Deadline, the deal was negotiated by Dan Freedman on behalf of Lionsgate, highlighting the studio’s enthusiasm for the project.

In a statement, it is clear that Lionsgate is betting on Chris Pine’s star power to drive the film’s success. With a proven track record of producing high-octane action films, the studio is well-positioned to capitalize on the movie’s potential. As Deadline reports, Run the Night is set to begin production soon, with further details on the film’s release date and marketing campaign expected to be announced in the coming months.

As the film industry continues to evolve, studios are increasingly looking to established stars like Chris Pine to anchor their projects. With Run the Night, Lionsgate is making a bold bet on the actor’s ability to draw audiences to the big screen. According to Deadline, the film’s unique blend of action and drama is expected to resonate with fans of the genre, making it a key player in the studio’s upcoming slate.

The project was sourced from Deadline, which first reported the news of Chris Pine’s involvement in Run the Night.
