Co-op Gives Members 25% Off After Cyberattack Fallout

Co-op Offers 25% Discount on £40 Shop as a “Thank You” to Members After Cyberattack

The Co-op is offering its 6.5 million members a 25% discount on a £40 shop as a gesture of appreciation for their loyalty during a recent cyberattack that caused significant disruption to its stores.

According to an article on Sky News, the retailer’s stock was affected due to the attack in May, leaving shelves bare, and payments were disrupted. Hackers also stole personal data including members’ names and contact details. The Co-op, as reported by Sky News, has been working closely with suppliers to restock its stores and return to usual trading.

The offer, which runs from June 18 to 24, can be used by members, including new ones, once. Co-op managing director of food, Matt Hood, said: “I’m very proud that, thanks to the work of our colleagues, we are very near to making a full and complete recovery from the recent cyberattack on our Co-op, and I’m delighted to see our stores looking back to normal and being able to serve our shoppers and communities.” As quoted in the Sky News article, Hood added, “We are so grateful to our member owners for their support and patience with us during what was a very difficult time and hope this gesture of appreciation goes a little way to showing them our thanks, with more value rewards to come over the summer.”

The Co-op was among several retailers, including Marks & Spencer (M&S) and Harrods, to have been hit by a cyberattack recently. M&S bosses said the incident was likely to cost the business around £300m. The Co-op’s 2,300 food stores were affected, with many shops experiencing bare shelves.

The discount offer is a “thank you” gesture to members for their support during the cyberattack, which caused significant disruption to Co-op’s operations. As reported by Sky News, the attack also led to the theft of personal data, including members’ names and contact details.

In an effort to regain customer loyalty, the Co-op is offering this exclusive discount to its members. The retailer is working to restore its services and ensure that its customers have a seamless shopping experience. According to Sky News, the Co-op’s managing director of food, Matt Hood, expressed his gratitude to members for their patience and support during the difficult time.

The Co-op’s cyberattack was part of a larger trend of cyberattacks targeting major retailers. As reported by Sky News, the incident highlights the importance of robust cybersecurity measures to protect customer data and prevent disruptions to business operations. The Co-op’s offer is a step towards rebuilding trust with its customers and ensuring that its members feel valued and appreciated.

This exclusive offer from the Co-op is a gesture of goodwill and a demonstration of the retailer’s commitment to its members. The discount is available to all members, including new ones, and can be used once during the promotional period. As quoted in the Sky News article, Matt Hood said, “We are so grateful to our member owners for their support and patience with us during what was a very difficult time.”

The Co-op’s offer can be redeemed in-store or online, and members can take advantage of this exclusive discount by presenting their membership card or using their mobile app. The retailer is working to ensure that its customers have a positive shopping experience and is taking steps to prevent similar incidents in the future.
