Collins a Target for Cardiff and Huddersfield

Bolton Wanderers Starlet Aaron Collins Attracts Interest from Cardiff City and Huddersfield Town

Cardiff City and Huddersfield Town are reported to be keen on signing Bolton Wanderers’ 28-year-old striker Aaron Collins, according to The Bolton News. Collins had a successful season with Wanderers, leading the team’s scoring charts with 19 goals and earning the club’s player of the year award in May.

As reported by The Bolton News, MK Dons have also registered a strong interest in Collins, with their manager Paul Warne keen to link up with a player he had tried to sign at Derby County in early 2024. Warne’s interest in Collins is well-documented, and it is understood that MK Dons are willing to pay a significant transfer fee to secure his services.

Wanderers paid £750,000 to land Collins from Bristol Rovers, and it is expected that they will demand at least that amount for the club to consider selling him this summer. This would not only bring in much-needed funds but also free up space and budget for manager Steven Schumacher to continue his remodelling of the squad. Collins has proved a popular addition with the supporters, grabbing 27 goals in all competitions in a little under a year and a half.

Despite reports in Milton Keynes suggesting that Collins was “on the brink” of completing his move to MK Dons, The Bolton News understands that there is still some way to go before anything is finalised. The situation is being closely watched by Wanderers fans, who are eager to see what the future holds for their star striker.

Schumacher’s plans to change the playing style and shape at Wanderers may have a knock-on effect for the club’s surplus of secondary strikers and ‘number 10s’, including Collins, John McAtee, Joel Randall, and Klaidi Lolos. These players may not be guaranteed the same amount of game time as they got last season, which could lead to a summer of uncertainty for some of the squad.

Bolton Wanderers have remained quiet on their stance and have been concentrating largely on adding to their squad. Their efforts continued with the capture of Xavier Simons from Hull City yesterday, and negotiations are now accelerating on a couple of other fronts. Meanwhile, MK Dons have completed a third signing of the summer, with former Wanderers vice captain Gethin Jones signing a two-year deal with the club which will begin on the expiry of his contract at the Toughsheet.

Jones was a mainstay of the Ian Evatt era at Bolton, playing more than 180 games in all competitions and scoring in the Papa Johns Trophy final against Plymouth Argyle in 2023. The 29-year-old Australia international had also been offered a chance to play in the A-League but has decided to remain in the UK. As The Bolton News reports, Jones’s departure from Wanderers has been followed by interest in Collins, highlighting the fluid nature of the transfer market this summer.

The potential sale of Collins could have significant implications for Bolton Wanderers’ season ahead. As The Bolton News continues to monitor the situation, one thing is certain: Aaron Collins is a player in high demand, and his future at the Toughsheet remains uncertain.

For now, Wanderers fans will be keeping a close eye on developments, hoping that their star striker will remain at the club for another season. However, with interest from Cardiff City, Huddersfield Town, and MK Dons, it remains to be seen what the future holds for Aaron Collins.
