Controversy Hits Hydro: Protest Erupts Over Singer’s Glasgow Gig

Disturbed’s Glasgow Show to be Met with Free Punk Gig in Protest

A free punk gig is set to take place in Glasgow in protest against the upcoming appearance of metal band Disturbed at the OVO Hydro on October 28. The band’s lead singer, David Draiman, has faced criticism for his actions surrounding the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

According to reports from the Glasgow Times, Draiman posted an image of himself signing an artillery shell while visiting the Israel Defence Forces in June last year. This move has sparked outrage among some fans and critics, who argue that it shows support for the Israeli military’s actions in Gaza.

The Glasgow Times reports that Draiman has taken to social media to defend his actions, stating that he is "pro peace and coexistence between all people". However, his comments have not alleviated concerns among some who feel that his actions are not conducive to a nuanced and respectful discussion about the conflict.

In response to Disturbed’s Glasgow show, DIY punk promoter Teen Warfare and Show Israeli Genocide the Red Card will host a free show featuring Proof of Failure, Reefer Madness, and Perøxide. The event aims to protest Draiman’s appearance in Glasgow, with Proof of Failure stating that "no platform should ever be given to someone who is pro-genocide, especially not in Glasgow".

The Glasgow Times notes that Draiman has denied being "pro-genocide", but the decision to host a counter-protest event has sparked a heated debate about the role of musicians in politics and the responsibility that comes with performing in a city.

The free punk gig is set to take place at a venue yet to be announced, with a demonstration also planned at the Hydro on the day Disturbed are due to play. As the Glasgow Times reports, Draiman’s comments have sparked a strong reaction among some fans and critics, with many taking to social media to express their concerns about his actions.

In a statement, Draiman said: "Open offer to
