Newcastle Holidaymaker’s Nightmare Corfu Hotel Experience
A 69-year-old holidaymaker from Newcastle has spoken out about her "horrendous" all-inclusive trip to Corfu, where she claims there was a lack of English food and hotel entertainment. Susan Edwards, from Westerhope, paid £750 each for a seven-night holiday at the Lido Corfu Sun Hotel with her cousins, aged 77 and 78, her daughter, 30, and second cousin, 50.
According to Chronicle Live, Susan said her holiday was "horrendous from the minute [they] got there." The group arrived at the hillside hotel at around 2 pm on May 12 and were ready to enjoy food and refreshments after a long journey. However, Susan claims she was informed that pool-side food would be served at 5 pm for guests, which she described as a "one-inch square of baklava."
The following day, Susan discovered that there was "no English food" available at the hotel. She described the food on offer as limited, with only toast, a hard-boiled egg, or something in sauce for breakfast. "There was no bacon," Susan said. "For breakfast, there was mozzarella and sliced tomatoes. There was no hot bacon or sausage."
In an interview with Chronicle Live, Susan expressed her disappointment with the food and drink options, stating that she couldn’t enjoy a drink of her choice during her holiday because she doesn’t like ouzo and doesn’t drink brandy. The all-inclusive drinks offered were wine, lager, ouzo, or brandy, with soft drinks available for €1.50.
Susan also expressed frustration with the hotel’s entertainment options, stating that there was no entertainment at the hotel, which is "stuck there in the middle of nowhere." She added that the private beach was "so steep we couldn’t get down to it and it was 150 yards from the hotel."
As reported by Chronicle Live, Susan has been offered £100 in holiday vouchers from TUI; however, she claims some holidaymakers she met while at the hotel have been offered more after complaining. Susan has declined TUI’s final offer of £100 vouchers.

Susan’s experience has left her feeling unsatisfied with TUI’s response, and she has vowed not to book with the company again. "In the past, I’ve paid more to get on a TUI flight because if anything happened, I’ve always thought you’ve got a big company behind you if anything goes wrong," Susan said. "Not anymore. This holiday was a nightmare."
