Coronation Street Actor’s Funeral Set to Take Place
The funeral of Coronation Street character Craig Tinker is set to take place, according to an episode of the ITV soap. The news was revealed as Kirk informed Maria that the "low-key" funeral was taking place.
According to the Liverpool Echo, who first reported on the story from their source, viewers were left heartbroken as Craig Tinker, played by Colson Smith, bid farewell to the ITV soap after a 14-year-stint. Fans had expected to see the funeral scenes air during a recent episode, but were surprised when the service did not take place.
The character’s death was a result of a violent disagreement between Kit Green and newcomer Mick Michaelis. Mick lashed out and hit Craig with a baseball bat, leaving him unconscious. Maria found him and rang for an ambulance, but it was later revealed that he had died.
As reported by the Liverpool Echo, citing Coronation Street, at the start of Monday’s episode, Kirk was on his way to the funeral as he told Maria: "Beth wants the funeral low-key." He added: "I’ll send Beth your love." Fans had hoped to see his mum Beth (Lisa George) make a comeback for the funeral, and even suggested his best friend Fay Windass (Elie Leach) should make a return.
Viewers were disappointed when the characters brushed past the funeral without giving it much thought. Taking to social media, one fan asked: "Why is Craig having a non-existent funeral?" Another wrote: "I wish Craig had an on-screen funeral. He deserved better." A third said: "Craig’s death and funeral has been very low key compared to some characters."
The Liverpool Echo reported that more fans added to the conversation on social media, asking: "Are we not seeing Craig’s funeral?" and "Who is actually at Craig’s funeral?? None of his workmates & none of the street seem to be there?? This seems very odd or have I missed some explanatory dialogue!"
Fans will have to wait until Wednesday to see if Craig’s funeral scenes will air, and if the actor will receive a proper send off after 14 years. The Liverpool Echo understands that Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV. Episodes are released on ITVX at 7am.
Elsewhere on the soap, Kit Green was in shock when he found Brody having a seizure in the street. The teenager had been drinking, and Kit decided to take him to hospital himself, instead of waiting for an ambulance. Despite the ongoing rivalry between the hot-headed pair, Kit showed his caring side towards Brody during Monday’s broadcast of the soap. In recent weeks, Kit realised he was Brody’s biological father, and not Mick Michaelis.
The Liverpool Echo also reported that David Platt asked Lou to cover for him at the salon while he attempted to build a cabinet. Viewers saw David in the fully refurbished Platt household following the dramatic fire which took place earlier this year.
