Coronation Street Newcomer Danielle Silverton Walks in on Husband Theo’s Secret Relationship
Danielle Silverton, played by actress Natalie Anderson, has been at the centre of a dramatic storyline in Coronation Street. The character’s world was turned upside down when she walked in on her husband Theo, played by James Cartwright, enjoying a passionate clinch with undertaker Todd Grimshaw, played by Gareth Pierce.
The storyline has left fans and viewers stunned, and Natalie Anderson, 43, has opened up about the emotional scenes she has been filming. In an exclusive interview with the Daily Mirror, Natalie revealed that she, James Cartwright, and Gareth Pierce have all found the storyline very emotional to film.
Danielle’s storyline has been a whirlwind of emotions, with her recently accusing Sarah Platt of having an affair with her husband, only to discover that Theo was secretly in a relationship with Todd. Natalie explained that Danielle loves Theo and adores him, but their long-standing relationship has its ups and downs.
“Yes, like any long, established relationship, they can snap at each other and if there was to be any midlife crisis, then she thinks the threat of other women could potentially be a problem,” Natalie said. “She even thinks Sarah might be keen on Theo and has already accused her of having an affair with him! So, to then walk in and see Theo in a passionate embrace with Todd is a huge shock.”
The storyline has been compared to some of the most iconic Coronation Street plots of the past, with Natalie saying that it’s the kind of thing she would have watched growing up. “This is the stuff I would watch when I was younger,” she said. “I grew up watching Ken and Deirdre and Mike Baldwin and now it’s amazing to be part of this storyline in Corrie.”
Natalie has been married to her husband, James Shepherd, for 17 years, and they have a 12-year-old son, Freddie. She has prioritized her family life, only taking on acting roles that can work around her home life.
“My career, ever since I had Freddie, has been about balance – family first and whatever fits around my family, then I can do it,” Natalie said. “I feel happiest when I am really present with Freddie and doing the best job I can as a mum.”
Natalie’s real-life experience of being a mum has helped her to bring depth to her character’s storyline. She revealed that her son, Freddie, is unfazed by his mum’s tangled love life on screen in Corrie.
“He’s nearly a teenager and part of the TikTok generation,” Natalie said. “It all goes over his head – unless of course I was in a Marvel movie! I am just a mum to him, but that’s the way I want it to be!”
Natalie has had an impressive career in TV, with roles in Emmerdale, The Royal, and Pop Idol. She auditioned for Pop Idol in 2001, at the age of 19, but narrowly missed out on the live finals.
“It was a brilliant experience being part of Pop Idol, it taught me a lot,” Natalie said. “I had grown up with Opportunity Knocks and it was such a unique time.”
Natalie has also appeared in the Liam Neeson action movie Memory and played Claire Walker in the Netflix smash hit, Fool me Once, alongside Michelle Keegan.
Working on Coronation Street has been a dream come true for Natalie, who has been impressed by the soap’s ability to tell impactful stories. “It’s been such an honour and the soaps are up there with the best at telling stories that are so impactful on our audiences,” she said.
The storyline of Danielle and her love triangle with Theo and Todd is set to continue, with Natalie revealing that a rocky road lies ahead for the characters. “There is so much to explore with Danielle and that’s part of the joy of the job,” she said.
Coronation Street airs every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 8pm on ITV. Episodes can be downloaded on ITVX.
