FIA Formula 2 Qualifying: Crawford Takes Pole Position in Jeddah
In a thrilling qualifying session, Jack Crawford has secured pole position for the FIA Formula 2 Sprint Race in Jeddah, narrowly beating Martinius Martins to the top spot. The session, which took place on the streets of Jeddah, saw several drivers pushing for a coveted spot at the front of the grid.
According to a report on the official Formula 1 website (Formula 1), Arvid Lindblad set the pace early on, but ultimately finished fifth, with his Campos Racing team mate Josep María Martí seventh. Lindblad’s performance was impressive, but it was not enough to secure a top-three spot.
The top six was completed by Alexander Dunne, Feature Race winner from Bahrain, who drives for Rodin Motorsport. As the Formula 1 website reports, Dunne, a McLaren Development Programme member, is continuing his promising start to his rookie campaign. "The pace was really good, I was happy with the car and the team did a great job," Dunne said.
In eighth place was Gabriele Minì for PREMA Racing, followed by MP Motorsport’s Richard Verschoor and the second Invicta car of Roman Stanek in P10. The drivers are now preparing for the Sprint Race, which is set to start at 1815 local time tomorrow evening.
The qualifying session was not without incident, with Yuki Tsunoda crashing and bringing out the red flags during FP2 in Saudi Arabia. The incident highlighted the challenges of racing on the streets of Jeddah.
As reported by the Formula 1 website, Crawford’s pole position was a narrow one, with Martins pushing him hard throughout the session. The Sprint Race is expected to be closely contested, with several drivers in a strong position to challenge for the win.
