Jamie Lee Curtis Opens Up About Regrettable Plastic Surgery Decision
Renowned actress Jamie Lee Curtis has spoken candidly about her decision to undergo plastic surgery at the age of 25, a choice she deeply regrets to this day. In a recent interview with "60 Minutes," Curtis revealed that the procedure was prompted by a cinematographer’s disparaging comment about her appearance on the set of the 1985 film "Perfect."
According to Curtis, the cinematographer refused to shoot her one day, citing his dissatisfaction with her facial features. "He was like, ‘I am not shooting her today because her eyes are baggy,’" Curtis recalled. "I was 25. For him to say that was very embarrassing. As soon as the movie finished, I ended up having some plastic surgery." The film, directed by James Bridges and co-starring John Travolta, was a significant project for Curtis, who played the role of an aerobics instructor.
Curtis has since expressed remorse for her decision, stating that it was not a positive experience. "Not well. That’s just not what you want to do when you’re 25 or 26. I regretted immediately and have regretted it since," she said. The actress has become a vocal advocate for self-acceptance and body positivity, often encouraging women to embrace their natural beauty. Her regret is compounded by her past struggles with addiction, which she has been open about in the past. Curtis has been sober for 26 years and has spoken about the importance of her sobriety journey.
In an interview with Variety in 2019, Curtis discussed how she often brings her sobriety with her onto film sets. "I was probably about nine months sober when I made ‘Freaky Friday,’" she said. "I put a big sign up by the catering truck, and it said, ‘Recovery meeting in Jamie’s trailer every day.’ I left the door open and didn’t know if anybody would show up. We ended up calling it the Mobile Home Recovery Meeting. It was probably my favorite grouping of sobriety that I’ve ever participated in."
Curtis’s comments about her plastic surgery experience have sparked a wider conversation about the pressures faced by women in the entertainment industry. Her decision to speak publicly about her regrets serves as a testament to her commitment to promoting positive body image and self-acceptance. As Curtis continues to be a role model for women around the world, her story serves as a reminder of the importance of self-love and acceptance.
