DAERA Set for Another Exciting Balmoral Show
The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) has announced that it will have a presence at the highly anticipated Balmoral Show, taking place from 14-17 May 2025. According to a statement released by DAERA, the department is set to engage with visitors on various initiatives aimed at supporting the agri-food and fishing sectors, improving water quality, and promoting sustainable farming practices.
At the DAERA stand, visitors will have the opportunity to learn about the new Sustainable Agriculture Programme (SAP), which aims to promote sustainable farming practices, ensure a positive future for agri-food, protect animal health, and restore the environment. As DAERA explains, "We’ll provide details on our new Sustainable Agriculture Programme (SAP), aimed at promoting sustainable farming practices, ensuring a positive future for agri-food, protecting animal health, and restoring the environment."
In addition to learning about SAP, visitors will also be able to discuss blue-green algae and the actions being taken to address this issue. DAERA staff will be available to provide information on how individuals can play their part in improving water quality on coasts and in local towns.
The department has also planned a range of activities and advice aimed at younger visitors. At the Green Growth stand, children will be able to use microscopes to identify "good bugs" and "bad bugs" found in waterways, play a magnetic game board to identify bio-security threats on farms, and participate in a ball maze board game. Furthermore, DAERA‘s Forest Service guides will be on hand to educate visitors about plant health and the bugs that can damage plants and trees.
For those considering a career in food, agriculture, equine, or horticulture, DAERA staff from the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) will be available to offer guidance and advice on opportunities and courses offered at their campuses.
The DAERA stand will be located inside the Eikon centre, to the rear, from Wednesday to Saturday. In addition to DAERA staff, representatives from other Government Departments and Agency staff will be participating in the exhibition, offering advice on a range of issues.
Visitors to the Balmoral Show can also follow DAERA on social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook, for updates and information. For media queries, contact the DAERA Press Office at [email protected] or telephone 028 9016 3460.
