Doctor Who Set to Stay with BBC Amid Disney Rumors

Doctor Who Future: Showrunner Russell T Davies Addresses Speculation

The future of the popular British sci-fi series, Doctor Who, has been a topic of speculation among fans in recent weeks. According to a report by The Mirror, showrunner Russell T Davies has already planned the next two seasons of the show, with scripts for season 16 nearly complete and stories ready for the 17th season. This news comes as a source close to the production told Radio Times that Disney withdrawing funding wouldn’t have as great an impact as some fans fear.

The BBC has declined to comment on the reports, but Davies has addressed the speculation about the show’s future. In an interview with Newsround, Davies said: "The Doctor’s reached the status of, like, Robin Hood. Sometimes there might be a pause, and during that pause, the viewers of Newsround now will grow up a few years and start writing stories and they’ll bring it back." He added, "So I have absolute faith that that will survive because I am living proof of it and that’s what happens to good ideas. No good idea ever dies."

Earlier this year, the BBC responded to speculation about rumours of Doctor Who being shelved. A spokesperson at the time said: "This story is incorrect, Doctor Who has not been shelved. As we have previously stated, the decision on season 3 will be made after season 2 airs." The spokesperson also confirmed that the deal with Disney+ was for 26 episodes – and exactly half of those still have to transmit.

Davies has also spoken to Radio Times about the future of the show, saying: "There’s no decision until after season 2. It’s funny, because even people who work on the show think that means we’re having secret meetings about it. People I work with every year say, ‘What’s really happening?’ and I’m going, ‘Nothing! No meetings, nothing.’" He added, "That’s when the decision is – and the decision won’t even be made by the people we work with at Disney+, it’ll be made by someone in a big office somewhere. So literally nothing happening, no decision."

The current 15th season of Doctor Who continues to get audiences talking, with new episodes airing on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK. The series is also available on Disney+ outside of the UK. Fans can stay up to date with the latest news and updates on the show by visiting the Radio Times website.

In a statement, Radio Times confirmed that Davies has planned for the future of the show, with a focus on improving picture quality and visual effects. The source close to the production told Radio Times that much of the current extra funding is spent on the technical task of improving the picture quality and visual effects.

The show’s production team, including Davies, have been working hard to bring fans exciting and engaging storylines. With the show’s future looking bright, fans can look forward to more adventures with The Doctor. As Radio Times reported, Davies has confirmed that the show will continue, saying: "I have absolute faith that that will survive."
