Danny Dyer Opens Up About Filming Steamy Sex Scenes in Rivals
The Daily Mail has learned that Danny Dyer, the 47-year-old former EastEnders star, has spoken about the challenges of filming intimate scenes in the Disney+ adaptation of Jilly Cooper’s classic novel, Rivals. In an interview with The Mirror, Danny admitted that he felt "awkward" during the steamy sex scenes, which are a significant part of the eight-part drama.
According to The Daily Mail, Danny plays Freddie Jones in Rivals, and his character shares several saucy moments with Lizzie Vereker, portrayed by Katherine Parkinson from The IT Crowd. While the on-screen chemistry between the two actors is undeniable, Danny revealed that filming those intimate scenes was not all smooth sailing. As he told The Mirror, "It’s a mad thing to work on, because if you think about it, you’re legally allowed to tongue someone else – that’s part of your f***ing job."
As reported by The Daily Mail, Danny also opened up about working with intimacy coaches on set, who are responsible for ensuring that the actors are comfortable during the filming of intimate scenes. In an interview with The Mirror, Danny reflected on a particularly revealing scene, saying, "In Rivals, where I have a wing scene, I have an intimacy coach asking how I feel. I went, ‘I quite like wing.’ Sometimes an intimacy coach will make it slightly awkward. Back in the day you would got on with it."
The source also revealed that Danny is no stranger to baring it all on camera. His first sex scene was in the 1999 cult film Human Traffic, which also involved solo action. In fact, as The Daily Mail previously reported, Danny has played a naked gladiator in the TV series Plebs.
In a separate interview with The Daily Mail, Danny revealed that he has taken up polo lessons to help prepare for the new series of Rivals. According to the actor, show bosses have enrolled him in an intensive horse-riding course, which has left his backside feeling "uncomfortably sore." Danny told The Daily Mail that he’s been galloping on a horse and will soon learn how to strike a ball with a mallet on horseback.
The Daily Mail also reported that Danny’s hard work has paid off, as he recently won the best male performance in a comedy gong at the BAFTA Television Awards for his role as Lee Campbell in the Sky series My Big Stuff. During his emotional acceptance speech, Danny admitted that he was "choked up" winning the award and thanked his two daughters, Dani and Sunnie, who were in attendance.
As noted by The Daily Mail, Danny’s win at the BAFTA Television Awards is a significant milestone in his career, which has spanned four decades. The actor quipped that he’s happy to have won the award, saying, "Oh, there’ll be some people fuming! I don’t know, man. I’ve earned it. I only want one; I don’t need more than this. I’m happy."
