Elden Ring to be Adapted into Film, Confirm Developers

Elden Ring Film Adaptation Announced: Alex Garland to Direct

In a significant development, Bandai Namco and A24 have announced a live-action film adaptation of the hit video game Elden Ring, with acclaimed director Alex Garland at the helm. The news was confirmed on Thursday, sending shockwaves of excitement through the gaming and film communities.

According to a report from The Verge, the Elden Ring film will be directed by Garland, a writer, director, and producer known for his work on films like Ex Machina, 28 Days Later, and Dredd. The game, developed by Japanese studio FromSoftware, was released in 2022 for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC, and has since become an instant hit. Players are tasked with restoring the Elden Ring by defeating various challenging bosses throughout the Lands Between.

The Elden Ring franchise has been expanding rapidly, with a spinoff titled Nightreign set to be released on May 30th, 2025. As cited by The Verge, FromSoftware first hinted at the potential to expand Elden Ring “beyond the realm of games” in 2022. George R.R. Martin, the creator of A Song of Ice and Fire who helped write the game, also expressed interest in a film adaptation, stating, “There is some talk about making a movie out of Elden Ring.”

While details about the film adaptation are still scarce, The Verge reports that A24 will be working closely with Bandai Namco to bring the game to life on the big screen. A24 has been instrumental in producing and distributing several critically acclaimed films, including Ex Machina and Uncut Gems. The studio’s involvement in the project has sparked hopes that the film will stay true to the game’s dark and immersive atmosphere.

As reported by The Verge, a publication called Nexus Point News first broke the news about the adaptation with A24 earlier this month, but subsequently pulled its original article without explanation. However, The Verge has confirmed that the project is indeed in the works, with Garland set to direct.

The announcement of the Elden Ring film adaptation has sent shockwaves of excitement through the gaming and film communities. Fans of the game have been eagerly awaiting news about a potential film or TV series, and the involvement of Garland and A24 has raised hopes that the project will be a success. As The Verge notes, the film industry has seen a surge in video game adaptations in recent years, with varying degrees of success. However, with Garland at the helm and A24 on board, this project has the potential to be a standout hit.

The Elden Ring film adaptation is still in its early stages, with no release date announced yet. However, fans of the game can rest assured that the project is in good hands, with Garland and A24 working closely with Bandai Namco to bring the game to life on the big screen. As more information becomes available, The Verge will be sure to provide updates on this exciting project.

The Verge first reported on this news, and as their publication confirms: "There is some talk about making a movie out of Elden Ring."
