A recent social media post by Ellen DeGeneres has left fans stunned, as the 67-year-old former talk show host unveiled a dramatic new hairstyle while giving a glimpse of her new life in the British countryside. According to a report by the Daily Mail, DeGeneres, who relocated to the UK following Donald Trump’s presidential win in November, shared a video on her main Instagram page showcasing her new brunette locks.
The Daily Mail reports that DeGeneres, who is married to Portia de Rossi, has moved to a new property near Oxfordshire after their Cotswolds home suffered severe flooding shortly after moving in. In the clip, DeGeneres is seen mowing the grass on her new property, steering a yellow mower through a large field under a layer of gray clouds. The Daily Mail notes that DeGeneres added text to the reel, which read, “How it started,” and then cut to a scene where she is assisted by an individual after the machine seemingly broke down on a steep hill.
The Daily Mail states that DeGeneres penned in the caption, “Portia thought it would be fun to film my first time on the mower. She was right.” This new hairstyle marks a significant change for DeGeneres, who had sported her signature blonde shade for years throughout her career. As reported by the Daily Mail, DeGeneres has previously given a rare look at her new life in England to her 136 million followers.
In April, DeGeneres snapped a photo while standing behind Portia, looking out at the scenic view of the countryside and a double rainbow following a rainfall. The Daily Mail quotes DeGeneres as writing, “3 things that make me happy: My Wife A Rainbow And my wife taking a photograph of a Rainbow.” This glimpse into her new life comes after DeGeneres was embroiled in controversy in 2020, being accused of creating a toxic work environment, and later issuing an apology.
According to the Daily Mail, DeGeneres’ talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, came to an end in 2022 after nearly two decades on the air. In 2024, DeGeneres stepped in front of the camera once again for her Netflix special, Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval. As reported by the Daily Mail, earlier this year, DeGeneres listed her Montecito property for $4,995,000 and sold it for over the asking price at $5.2 million. The Daily Mail notes that DeGeneres and Portia had put an additional Montecito property on the market for $29.9 million in January. The couple, who tied the knot in 2008, opted to move into an $18 million house in the Cotswolds area in the UK late last year.
A source explained to New Idea, as reported by the Daily Mail, “Ellen wants to continue with her comedy work, and there is a huge scene in Britain. Sitting back and chilling on a beach in Australia is for when she’s ready to retire and Ellen’s not there yet.” However, their six-bedroom Cotswolds home was met with severe flooding due to Storm Bert. An insider informed the Daily Mail, “Ellen and Portia have had several issues with the place they initially moved into. First, there was the flooding, of course, then there was an issue with some locals complaining about some building work carried out at the property.”
The Daily Mail reports that DeGeneres and Portia have since moved to a different property, which is only a 30-minute drive from the original home they had bought. A source recently told DailyMail.com, as reported by the Daily Mail, “The house is a real Grand Designs number – and it’s plain that Ellen and Portia are loving it.” The source added, “Everything has been done very discreetly, so it’s not clear what the terms of the deal were, but it seems that it has recently changed hands for not much less than they paid for their previous place.”
In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, DeGeneres said, “I have to just trust that whatever happened during that time, which was obviously very, very difficult, happened for a reason. I think that I learned a lot, and there were some things that came up that I was shocked and surprised by. It was eye-opening, but I just trust that that had to happen.”
