Former World Championship Semi-Finalist Andy Jenkins Banned for 11 Years for Match Fixing
A former World Championship semi-finalist has been handed a significant ban and fine for match fixing, according to Sky Sports. Andy Jenkins, who reached the last four of the 2007 World Championship, has been banned for 11 years and fined £17,580 for fixing 12 Modus Super Series matches between February 22, 2002, and July 5, 2023.
The 54-year-old, who lost to Raymond van Barneveld in the 2007 World Championship semi-finals, was found guilty of passing information to bettors and was also sanctioned by the Darts Regulation Authority (DRA) for betting on 88 darts matches between the same period. As reported by Sky Sports, Jenkins has also been ordered to pay costs of £17,580.03 and has until May 6, 2025, to appeal the decision.
The ban and fine were imposed after an investigation by the Gambling Commission, which found that Jenkins had engaged in match-fixing and betting on darts matches. According to Sky Sports, John Pierce, director of enforcement at the Gambling Commission, said: "This case sends a strong and unequivocal message to all sportspeople – if you fix matches, you are likely to be caught and face serious consequences."
The Gambling Commission’s sports betting intelligence unit will continue to work closely with partners such as the Darts Regulation Authority to identify and prevent match-fixing. As Sky Sports reported, Pierce added: "Betting customers in Britain deserve confidence that the markets they engage with are fair and free from corruption."
