Floribama Shore Star Kirk Medas in ICU with Severe Illness
A worrying update has emerged regarding the health of reality TV personality Kirk Medas, a former star of MTV’s Floribama Shore. According to a report from Page Six, Medas has been hospitalised in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for the past two weeks, battling a severe case of necrotizing pancreatitis and sepsis.
The 33-year-old, who appeared on Floribama Shore from 2017 to 2021, is currently on a ventilator after being sedated while his body "takes some time to heal". A GoFundMe page set up to support Medas has raised over $18,000 so far, highlighting the financial struggles his family is facing during this challenging time. Page Six reports that Medas’ co-star Aimee Elizabeth Hall took to Instagram to share a concerning photo of him hooked up to machines and a ventilator, while appealing to fans for donations and prayers.
Necrotizing pancreatitis is a serious condition that causes part of the pancreas to die, while sepsis is a life-threatening reaction to an infection that can result in organ damage or death, according to Cedars-Sinai. Hall, 32, explained that Medas "does not have medical insurance, and his sweet, strong mother has created a GoFundMe to help with the overwhelming expenses", which include hospital bills and rehab. "If you can’t [donate], your prayers mean just as much," she wrote, asking fans to pray for Medas, his mom, his friends, and the cast, as they are "all hurting watching [their] brother fight this battle".
Page Six also reports that Medas’ castmate Nilsa Prowant, 31, has been flying back and forth to Miami to be by his side. In an Instagram post, Prowant detailed rushing to Medas’ side after getting a call that he was in the hospital two weeks ago. "I did fly down there and see him, and it was one of the hardest things I’ve seen in my life because you know how close me and Kirk are," she noted. "He’s been there for me for the past eight years of my life. He was there for me when I had [my son] Gray, my baby shower, my wedding. He walked my mom down the aisle. I love Kirk so much and his family so much".
Prowant also revealed that Medas is suffering from sepsis, and thanked fans for their "overwhelming love, prayers, donations, messages and support for Kirk". "Watching someone you love go through something so painful and uncertain is heartbreaking, but your messages, prayers and kind words have truly lifted us in this dark time," she said. "We’re believing in healing, recovery and a miracle. One day at a time". The last time Medas posted on his Instagram was April 15, when he shared a photo of himself posing on a balcony.
The situation highlights the fragility of life and the importance of supporting loved ones during difficult times. As fans and fellow celebrities rally around Medas, it is clear that his health journey will be a long and challenging one. Page Six will continue to provide updates on Medas’ condition as more information becomes available.
In the meantime, fans can show their support by donating to the GoFundMe page or sending prayers and well-wishes to Medas and his family. As Prowant so eloquently put it, "We’re believing in healing, recovery and a miracle. One day at a time".
