BBC Presenter Gabby Logan Opens Up About Brother’s Death and Family Loss
Sports presenter Gabby Logan has spoken candidly about the loss of her brother Daniel, who tragically died at the age of 15. In an emotional interview, Logan revealed that she reached a breaking point in her grief at the age of 19, where “it all came crashing down”.
According to GB News, Logan’s brother died when she was just a teenager, and the presenter has now shared the struggles she faced in the aftermath of the family loss. The first anniversary of her brother’s death led to a breakdown as she faced university exams. “I was running around running from my grief, probably, and then by the end of my first year at university, so just around the time of his first anniversary, I had some first year exams and it all kind of came crashing down,” she recalled.
Logan spoke about her experience on the Ainslie + Ainslie Performance People podcast, where she shared that she had stopped sleeping properly and felt “very wobbly”. She went to see a doctor, who offered her sleeping tablets, but Logan knew that was not the solution. “Even I knew that’s not the answer to what was going on, it was much deeper than that, it was the plaster and my dad had had a lot of problems with sleeping tablets. He said ‘Don’t take those, that’s not a good route.'” GB News reported that Logan eventually decided to try counselling before embarking on her successful career.
The presenter, who usually focuses on sports reporting, recently opened up about the emotional impact that comes from presenting tragic news headlines. On her Mid Point Podcast with BBC Radio 5 Live’s Rick Edwards, she commented: “I remember the last time I filled in on 5 Live Breakfast, I remember coming away and feeling really sad, that day some terrible things had happened [on the news]. I rang Kenny and said ‘I don’t know how people do this every day’ because you do take on a lot in those three hours.” GB News noted that Edwards shared a similar experience, recalling a moment where he felt “really sort of really, really down” after covering the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Logan also shared an emotional moment last year when she posted a video clip from the year prior. Taking to her Instagram account in August, Logan shared the moment she found out that her family had bought her a standard poodle – Maverick – for her 50th birthday. In the video, Logan was overcome with emotion as she revealed that her family had surprised her with the gift. “However it’s totally backfired on them all. Because they are utterly enamoured and in love with the beautiful, clever, big handsome guy,” she wrote in the caption.
As reported by GB News, Logan’s family had bought her the poodle as a surprise gift, with her sister Lois doing the research and finding a litter near Bath. Logan’s husband Kenny and children were also involved in the surprise, and the presenter was overwhelmed with emotion. The story was originally reported by GB News, who shared Logan’s personal insights into her family’s life and her experiences with loss and grief.
The BBC presenter has been open about her personal life and experiences, sharing her story with her audience. According to GB News, Logan’s bravery in speaking out about her brother’s death and her family’s life has resonated with many, and her story serves as a reminder of the importance of seeking help and support during difficult times.
