Lady Gaga’s Role in Wednesday Season 2 Revealed
According to a report from Entertainment Weekly, Lady Gaga has been cast in a role in the second season of the hit Netflix series Wednesday, which stars Jenna Ortega as the titular character. The news was revealed during Netflix’s Tudum live event, where Gaga made a bloody good impression with a performance that left viewers eager for more.
As reported by Entertainment Weekly, Gaga will play the role of Rosaline Rotwood, a legendary Nevermore teacher who crosses paths with Ortega’s Wednesday. Her guest appearance will take place during Part 2 of the season, which is set to premiere on September 3, following the Part 1 premiere on August 6.
During the Tudum event, Gaga closed out the livestream with a medley of songs, including a mash-up of her new song “Zombieboy” with the Addams Family theme song, 2011’s “Bloody Mary,” and “Abracadabra” from her most recent album, Mayhem. Entertainment Weekly notes that “Bloody Mary” has particular significance for the Netflix hit, as a rendition of the song went viral on TikTok in 2022 alongside clips of Ortega’s character dancing in season 1.
The song, originally released on Gaga’s 2011 album Born This Way, but never released as an official single, surged in popularity thanks to Wednesday fans, hitting No. 41 on the Billboard Hot 100, 11 years after its initial release. Entertainment Weekly reports that Gaga recreated the viral Wednesday dance while singing “Bloody Mary” at the Netflix event, before a group of goth schoolgirls shimmied to the Cramps’ 1981 song “Goo Goo Muck,” which was the original soundtrack to the season 1 scene.
Ortega joined Gaga for the “Abracadabra” performance, sitting at the head of a long banquet table for a spooky feast. As reported by Entertainment Weekly, Gaga was clad as a lady in red, dancing atop the table, before returning to her coffin — and taking Thing with her.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly earlier this year, Gaga remained tight-lipped on her Wednesday character, but said she enjoyed spending time with Ortega on set. “I don’t want to give away anything about being part of the show,” Gaga said. “I want to keep it extra secret — but, I love Jenna, and I really had an amazing time!”
Entertainment Weekly also reports that co-creator Miles Millar teased that season 2 has “some moments which are definitely horror movie-worthy.” He added, “We have that in season 1, but I think this season there are moments that are very intense, I’ll say.”
Gaga’s involvement in Wednesday season 2 was previously hinted at by Ortega, who expressed her desire to have Gaga join the show. As reported by Entertainment Weekly, Ortega told Variety at the Golden Globes in January 2023 that she envisioned a storyline for Gaga, saying, “I’m sure Netflix would love that… I think Mrs. Thornhill and Wednesday had this weird mentor relationship or kind of understood each other in a certain way, so, if Lady Gaga were to be a part, I think it would have to be two monsters that understand each other.”
The second season of Wednesday also stars Luis Guzmán, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Fred Armisen, Hunter Doohan, Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, Isaac Ordonez, and Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo. Part 1 of the season will premiere on August 6 on Netflix, followed by Gaga’s role in Part 2 on September 3.
