Gamrot vs. Klein: What’s at Stake in Highly-Anticipated Bout?

MMA Junkie Analyst Dan Tom Provides Insight on Mateusz Gamrot vs. Ludovit Klein at UFC on ESPN 68

This weekend, the co-main event of UFC on ESPN 68 at UFC Apex in Las Vegas will feature a highly anticipated lightweight showdown between Mateusz Gamrot and Ludovit Klein. According to MMA Junkie analyst Dan Tom, this matchup promises to be an exciting contest between two skilled fighters.

In his analysis, Tom notes that Gamrot (24-3 MMA, 7-3 UFC) is looking to rebound from a narrow loss to Dan Hooker in his previous fight, which he lost by split decision. Prior to that setback, Gamrot was on a three-fight winning streak, having taken out Jalin Turner, Rafael Fiziev, and Rafael dos Anjos. Currently ranked No. 10 in the latest USA TODAY/MMA Junkie lightweight rankings, Gamrot faces an unranked opponent in Klein.

"Klein (23-4-1 MMA, 7-2-1 UFC) gets a big step up in competition," Tom writes for MMA Junkie. "Having not experienced defeat in seven fights, Klein has picked up six wins and one draw on his current run, including three victories last year." Despite Klein’s impressive form, Tom believes that this fight represents a significant step down for Gamrot, given his arguable relevance in the division.

The MMA Junkie analyst also highlights the stylistic differences between the two fighters, noting that Klein has never faced a wrestling or pace threat at the level of Gamrot before. "And though Klein looks to have incredibly strong hips to fuel his solid first layer of takedown defense, he’s also an athlete who hates extended exchanges considering his need for pockets to recoup," Tom writes.

In his expert pick, Tom sides with Gamrot to win the fight via submission in Round 2. "Unless Klein can catch Gamrot with a nasty front teep or check hook early, then I suspect that the Polish fighter will use the smaller octagon to create the cartoonish scramble-fests he’s accustomed to," Tom predicts. He also notes that Gamrot has a strong record of 5-0 when fighting inside the Apex and stands 4-1-1 against UFC-level southpaws.

The odds for the fight favor Gamrot, with the Polish fighter listed at -168 and Klein at +136 via FanDuel. Fans can tune in to the co-main event on ESPN+, which is expected to start at approximately 11:40 p.m. ET.

As reported by MMA Junkie, this fight promises to be an exciting contest between two skilled fighters. With Gamrot looking to rebound from a narrow loss and Klein seeking to continue his impressive winning streak, fans can expect a highly competitive matchup at UFC on ESPN 68.

The event takes place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, and the co-main event is expected to draw significant attention from fans and pundits alike. As noted by MMA Junkie analyst Dan Tom, "Add in the fact that Gamrot is officially 5-0 when fighting inside the Apex and stands 4-1-1 against UFC-level southpaws, and I can’t help but side with Gamrot to remind the masses with a submission win in Round 2."
