Bayern Munich’s New Signing Jonathan Tah: The Defender with Ivory Coast Roots
As Jonathan Tah considers his illustrious career, he reflects on the hard work that has led him to become one of Europe’s top defenders. The 28-year-old, who has just signed with Bayern Munich, spoke exclusively to Deutsche Welle (DW) at the German national team’s training camp in Herzogenaurach.
"As of now, I’ve done everything I can to be the best version of myself," Tah told DW. "But of course, I can and want to always get more out of myself." The defender’s impressive stats from last season, including winning 65% of his tackles and completing nearly 94% of his passes, have made him a coveted signing for the German giants.
Tah’s rise to prominence has not been without its challenges. The Hamburg native made his debut for the national team in early 2016 under then-coach Joachim Löw, but it wasn’t until Julian Nagelsmann took over that he became a regular fixture in the central defense, alongside Antonio Rüdiger. According to DW, Tah credits his recent success to his hard work and dedication to the sport.
