Protest Gig to be Held Against Disturbed’s Glasgow Concert
A protest gig is set to take place outside the OVO Hydro in Glasgow on October 28, when heavy metal rockers Disturbed perform at the venue. The protest is in response to the band’s lead singer David Draiman’s stance on the war in Gaza, which has sparked controversy and outrage among some fans and human rights groups.
According to a report by The Scottish Sun, Draiman was pictured last year on a visit with the Israeli Defence Forces, signing "f*** Hamas" on an artillery shell. This move has been widely condemned, and a number of bands, including Proof of Failure, Reefer Madness, and Perøxide, have organised a protest gig to take place outside the OVO Hydro.
The protest, which is being promoted by groups including Teen Warfare and Show Israeli Genocide the Red Card, aims to make a statement against Draiman’s views and to highlight the ongoing conflict in Gaza. A post promoting the protest read: "On October 28, Disturbed are scheduled to play the OVO Hydro. Pictured is Disturbed’s singer David Draiman signing artillery shells used by the IDF in their genocide against the Palestinian people. We need your support on the day, to show people we will not welcome public advocates of genocide in Glasgow."
The protest will feature a number of local punk bands performing a couple of sets, with the aim of making their presence known and uniting against individuals who promote hate and violence. Draiman has insisted that he is "pro peace and coexistence between all people," but his actions have been widely criticised.
