Walton Goggins and Aimee Lou Wood Address Instagram Feud Rumours
The rumoured feud between White Lotus co-stars Walton Goggins and Aimee Lou Wood has been addressed, with the duo revealing the reason behind Goggins’ sudden decision to unfollow Wood on Instagram. According to an interview with Variety, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Goggins and Wood have quashed speculation of a rift between them, with Goggins declaring that he "adores" and "loves" Wood.
The rumours of a feud began circulating after Goggins unfollowed Wood on Instagram following the finale of White Lotus season three. The speculation was further fuelled by comments from their co-star, Jason Isaacs, who hinted at on-set drama during an interview with The Guardian. Isaacs stated that the cast’s time on set in Thailand, where they filmed for an extended period, led to the formation and breakdown of various alliances, romances, and friendships.
During their joint interview with Variety, Goggins and Wood appeared to be on good terms, with the pair embracing and holding hands. Goggins was keen to put the rumours to rest, stating that there is "no feud" between them. "I adore, I love this woman madly, and she is so important to me," he said. "This is Goldie Hawn. This is Meg Ryan. She can do anything, and she will. You watch what the next 20 years of her experience will be … She is love and I know that I am that to her. We care about each other very deeply."
Wood, on the other hand, seemed dismissive of the Instagram controversy, stating that it’s "irrelevant" and that they "don’t give a shite about Instagram". She added that she eventually stopped paying attention to the speculation, saying, "Eventually I just started to sit back and watch these people making something out of absolutely nothing."
Goggins explained that he tends to take a step back after completing a project, citing his previous experience with Justified as an example. He stated that he didn’t speak to his co-star Timothy Olyphant for almost two years after the show ended. Goggins also revealed that his personal history with Thailand, where he has previously visited to grieve his wife’s 2004 suicide, played a role in his decision to unfollow Wood. The actor explained that returning to Thailand for White Lotus brought up strong emotions, and he needed time to process his feelings.
"My catharsis in this experience was different than other people’s, because of my history in this place," Goggins said, becoming emotional. "I knew what [Wood and I] had gone through, and I knew how close that we had gotten, and I needed to begin to process saying goodbye to Rick and Chelsea. And I knew that that was going to take a while for me, so I let her know, ‘This is what I’ve gotta do.’ And she was extremely supportive about that."
Goggins added that he needed to take a step back from everyone, including Wood, to process his emotions. "I needed to just back away from everyone. I haven’t spoken to anyone. I couldn’t handle it. Judge me or don’t. I don’t give a fuck what you think. This is my process. Rick means everything to me, and Chelsea means everything to me. And so that’s what I needed to do for me to process all of this."
In a symbolic gesture, Goggins reportedly re-followed Wood on Instagram, stating that it was "just a part of me just saying goodbye to this character so that now Aimee and I will be friends for fucking ever." The duo’s explanation has put the rumours of a feud to rest, with it clear that Goggins and Wood have a deep affection for each other.
The Hollywood Reporter’s coverage of the interview provides further insight into the pair’s dynamic, highlighting their chemistry and camaraderie. The incident serves as a reminder that, in the age of social media, even the smallest actions can be subject to intense scrutiny and speculation.
Ultimately, Goggins and Wood’s decision to address the rumours has provided closure for fans of the show, and it is clear that their bond remains strong despite the speculation. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the pair’s explanation has shed light on the importance of respecting individuals’ boundaries and processes, especially in the aftermath of an intense and emotional experience like filming a dramatic series.
