Goldblum Takes Center Stage at London’s Iconic Palladium

Jeff Goldblum Brings Jazz and Charm to the London Palladium

Renowned actor Jeff Goldblum, famous for his roles in films such as The Fly and Jurassic Park, took to the stage at the historic London Palladium with his band, The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra, to deliver a captivating jazz performance. The Upcoming was in attendance to witness the magic firsthand.

The setlist kicked off with Plas Johnson’s Grease Patrol, a track from their latest studio album Still Blooming. The orchestra, featuring Scott Gilman on sax, Joe Bagg on keyboards, and Alex Frank on double bass, provided a lively backing to Goldblum’s piano playing. According to The Upcoming’s review, “The band is far from eclipsed by Goldblum’s star power.”

The show was characterised by Goldblum’s idiosyncratic stage presence, which included snapping his fingers and exchanging conspiratorial glances with the audience. As noted by The Upcoming, “He punctuates each phrase with a snap of the fingers, or else a conspiratorial glance at the crowd.”

The orchestra was joined by two guest vocalists during the performance. British jazz singer Emma Smith brought a poignant touch to the World War Two era pop tune We’ll Meet Again, sharing a sparkling chemistry with Goldblum. Smith’s personal connection to the venue added an extra layer of emotional depth to the performance, as her grandfather had performed alongside Frank Sinatra at the Palladium decades earlier. As The Upcoming reported, “Tonight feels like a homecoming,” according to Smith.

The second guest vocalist, London-born Dodie, brought a different energy to the performance, delivering a soulful rendition of 1954’s Misty. Despite being nervous, she glided effortlessly around the stage, complementing Goldblum’s tastefully restrained piano solo.

While Goldblum may not possess the same level of musical virtuosity as the other soloists, his showmanship and charm more than make up for it. As The Upcoming’s review noted, “It’s Goldblum’s ability to impart his passion that gives the show its shine.” He has a knack for drawing in the audience and making them feel like they’re part of the performance, whether it’s by getting them to write lyrics on the fly or engaging in humorous banter with a hapless sound engineer.

The Upcoming’s photographer, Virginie Viche, captured stunning images of the performance, which can be viewed alongside the review. For those interested in learning more about Jeff Goldblum’s upcoming performances, his website is available for further information.

In conclusion, Jeff Goldblum’s performance at the London Palladium with The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra was a resounding success, showcasing his unique blend of jazz, charm, and charisma. As The Upcoming so aptly put it, “His charm is irrepressible.”
