Weekend Weather Forecast: Temperatures to Soar Above Seasonal Norms
A high-pressure system is set to dominate the UK weather over the weekend, with temperatures expected to remain above seasonal averages. According to Gazete Anadolu, the Met Office has forecast a dry and sunny spell for much of the country, with only isolated showers expected.
Meteorology expert Fevzi Burak Tekin, from the Turkish Environment, Urban Planning and Climate Change Ministry’s Meteorology General Directorate, has provided an update on the weekend weather forecast. Tekin stated that the latest assessments indicate that scattered showers will occur on Saturday and Sunday, but mostly, the weather will be partly cloudy and sunny.
On Saturday, Tekin warned that Kastamonu, Karabük, and the inner parts of Eastern Karadeniz, as well as Kars, Ardahan, Erzurum, Erzincan, and the Toroslar region of Eastern Mediterranean, can expect thunderstorms and heavy showers. These conditions are expected to persist into Sunday, with the addition of Iğdır and Kırklareli experiencing showers.
However, by Sunday evening, a new low-pressure system will begin to affect the country, bringing rain and thunderstorms to the western regions. "On Sunday evening, we will enter the influence of a new rainy system. Especially on Sunday night, we expect heavy rain and thunderstorms in the Thrace region, coastal Aegean, Denizli, and Uşak," Tekin said.
The Met Office has also issued a warning for strong winds and dust transport in several regions. On Saturday, strong winds are expected in the eastern part of Southeastern Anatolia, while on Sunday, the western part of Marmara and the Aegean region will experience strong winds and dust transport.
In the major cities, Tekin reported that Ankara and Istanbul will experience dry and sunny conditions over the weekend, with temperatures ranging from 30-33°C and 27-33°C, respectively. İzmir will enjoy sunny weather on Saturday and Sunday, with temperatures reaching 32-34°C and 37°C, respectively.
When it comes to the country’s capital, Gazete Anadolu quotes Tekin as saying: "There is no expectation of rain in Ankara and Istanbul over the next three days. Both cities will experience partly cloudy and sunny weather."
Regarding İzmir, Tekin added: "The weather will be clear on Friday and Saturday, with temperatures between 32-34°C. On Sunday, temperatures will reach 37°C. We also expect strong winds and thunderstorms on Sunday night."
The forecaster concluded that a new low-pressure system will affect the eastern regions of the country on Monday.
