Halle Bailey Granted Restraining Order Against Ex-Boyfriend DDG
A Los Angeles judge has granted a restraining order to actress and singer Halle Bailey, citing concerns for her safety and that of her 17-month-old son, Halo. According to court documents obtained by Newsday, Bailey, 25, alleges that her ex-boyfriend, rapper and YouTuber DDG, has been subjected to a pattern of physical, verbal, emotional, and financial abuse throughout their relationship.
The order, granted on Tuesday, prohibits DDG, whose legal name is Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., from coming near Bailey and their son until a hearing on June 6. In documents requesting the order, Bailey detailed multiple incidents of violence, including a January incident where Granberry allegedly called her a "bitch" and physically assaulted her while trying to strap Halo into a car seat. "The next thing I knew, things got physical between us," Bailey stated in the documents. "We fought each other, wrestling and tussling. At one point, Darryl was pulling my hair. He then slammed my face on the steering wheel, causing my tooth to get chipped. I then stopped fighting back as I was in a lot of pain."
Bailey, who starred in Disney’s live-action remake of "The Little Mermaid" in 2023, also alleged that Granberry had entered her home without permission and sent her threatening messages. In one instance, he reportedly smashed a Ring camera on her porch when he realized it was recording their confrontation. Bailey claimed that when she called a relative for help, Granberry took her phone and got into his car, slamming the door on her as she was holding Halo. A police report was filed in connection with this incident.
In addition to the physical abuse allegations, Bailey asked the court to order Granberry to cease using his social media platforms to turn his followers against her. "Whenever he wishes to cause upset, he starts bad mouthing me to his several millions of fans," Bailey stated. "He claims I am withholding our son and that I am with other men. As a result, I then receive threats and hate on social media."
DDG, 27, from Pontiac, Michigan, has gained success as a video streamer and hip-hop artist. His fourth studio album, "Blame the Chat," was released on Epic Records on May 5. Bailey, from Atlanta, has been nominated for five Grammy Awards as both a solo artist and as part of the duo Chloe x Halle, which first brought her fame. She also starred in the sitcom "Grown-ish" from 2018 to 2022.
The court order also prohibits Granberry from possessing any weapons, and the judge can extend the restraining order for up to five years at the June 6 hearing. A representative for Granberry was not immediately available for comment. According to Newsday, Bailey and Granberry were in a relationship from 2022 until last year.
The news of the restraining order comes as a concerning development in the high-profile relationship. As reported by Newsday, Bailey included photos of her injuries and bruises in her court filing, highlighting the severity of the alleged abuse. The case will continue to be monitored, with a hearing scheduled for June 6 to determine the future of the restraining order.
Bailey said she is seeking orders to protect herself and their son Halo from his ongoing abuse. As stated in the documents, "Throughout our relationship," "Daryl has been and continues to be physically, verbally, emotionally, and financially abusive towards me."
