Craig Gordon Commits to Hearts with One-Year Contract Extension
In a significant move for Scottish football, Craig Gordon, the veteran goalkeeper of Hearts, has agreed to a one-year contract extension, keeping him at Tynecastle Park until 2026. This development, reported by Sky Sports, brings an end to speculation about his future with the club.
Gordon, who is 42 years old and in his second spell with Hearts, was out of contract this summer. Despite the uncertainty, he has committed to another year with the team, making 46 appearances for Hearts this season after being reinstated as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper. As Sky Sports notes, Gordon reached a milestone of 300 appearances for Hearts in November and became the club’s record European appearance holder in their Europa League qualifier against FC Viktoria Plzen.
The experienced goalkeeper has had a distinguished career, playing for Sunderland and Celtic, and has made 81 appearances for Scotland. Although he missed out on Steve Clarke’s latest squad due to a minor injury, Gordon’s commitment to Hearts is a significant boost to the team. In an interview with the Official Hearts Website, as quoted by Sky Sports, Gordon expressed his delight at continuing with the club, saying, “It’s a huge honour to continue playing with this great club. Ever since I walked in the door of the old main stand in 1999, it’s all I have wanted to do. I feel fortunate to still have the opportunity to do that for another year.”
Gordon also highlighted his determination to contribute to the team’s success under new head coach Derek McInnes. “I took my time to come to this decision, I wanted to make sure it was right. I’m looking forward to the new season, determined to make it better than the last. To be part of the new era under Derek McInnes and the new management team, I’m ready to do all I can to help get this team back to where we want to be. Another season, another chance to achieve. I’m looking forward to it,” he said, as reported by Sky Sports.
Hearts are preparing for the new season with optimism, having already made two new signings. Greek winger Alexandros Kyziridis and right-back Christian Borchgrevink will join the team when the transfer window opens in June. The club is looking to build on their recent performances and challenge for success in the upcoming season.
In related news, Sky Sports has announced that they will be showing 215 live Premier League games from next season, an increase from their current coverage of 128 matches. This significant expansion of their Premier League coverage will see 80 per cent of all televised Premier League games broadcast on Sky Sports.
With Craig Gordon’s contract extension, Hearts can look forward to a more stable and experienced squad for the upcoming season. The team’s progress and aspirations will be closely watched by fans and pundits alike, with Sky Sports providing comprehensive coverage of the Premier League.
