Hickman Blames Others for TT Crash

Peter Hickman Reveals Cause of High-Speed Crash at Isle of Man TT

According to a report by the BBC, Peter Hickman, a 14-time Isle of Man TT winner, has revealed that his high-speed crash during a qualifying session for the event was caused by a component failure. The incident occurred on the evening of Friday, 30 May, at the Kerrowmoar section of the Mountain Course.

The crash, which resulted in Hickman suffering multiple fractures, including a broken left collarbone, left scapula, and shoulder blade, as well as three broken ribs and four vertebrae in his back. The 38-year-old was flown to Noble’s Hospital on the island by Airmed helicopter after the incident and was treated for his injuries before being discharged.

In a video posted on his Facebook page, Hickman explained the cause of the crash, stating that it was a component failure that led to the incident. "Unfortunately, it was a component failure [which caused the crash] so it wasn’t actually my fault," he said. "It was some bracketry that holds the exhaust in place. It didn’t come loose, it broke in theory, and pushed the exhaust into the rear wheel and popped the rear tyre. That was why I crashed."

Hickman was riding his Superstock BMW machine for the 8TEN Racing team, which he recently formed with fellow racer Davey Todd, when he crashed. The rider expressed his gratitude to the medics and marshals who looked after him at the time of the incident, saying, "I just want to say a massive thanks to the medics and the marshals that looked after me at the time. They did a fantastic job."

The BBC reports that Hickman has been a regular competitor at the TT since making his debut at the races in 2014. In his 10-year history at the event, this is the first major problem he has encountered. "I’ve been going to the Isle of Man TT for 10 years and this is the first major problem that I’ve had," he said.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of the event, which takes place on closed public roads. However, according to the BBC, Hickman is already looking to recover and move forward. Despite the severity of his injuries, Hickman remains optimistic about his chances of recovering and returning to racing.

As previously reported by the BBC, Hickman holds the absolute lap record for the 37.73-mile circuit. His crash has sent shockwaves through the racing community, with many of his fans and fellow competitors expressing their support for him on social media.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and the BBC will provide updates as more information becomes available. In the meantime, Hickman’s fans and fellow competitors will be keeping a close eye on his recovery and wishing him a speedy return to the track.

The article, originally reported by the BBC, has provided valuable insight into the circumstances surrounding Hickman’s crash and his current condition.

The BBC will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates on Hickman’s recovery.

Further to the incident the BBC understands that there are ongoing investigations.

As this is a developing story, the BBC will keep you updated with the latest information.
