House Speaker Pays Tribute to Broadcasting Legend Alastair Stewart, Praising His ‘Unflappable’ Journalism Style

Speaker of the House of Commons Pays Tribute to Alastair Stewart OBE

The Speaker of the House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, has paid a heartfelt tribute to renowned broadcaster Alastair Stewart OBE, a week after a new studio was opened in his name at GB News’ Westminster base. According to GB News, Stewart and his wife Sally met with Hoyle at Speaker’s House in the House of Commons, where the Speaker praised Stewart’s "unflappable delivery of news, in an instantly recognisable, authoritative, yet clear and determined voice".

This voice, GB News reports, has inspired "generations of young people to take up the calling" of journalism. Hoyle also expressed his admiration for Stewart’s journalism, stating that it has been an inspiration to many. The new studio, named the GB News Westminster Alastair Stewart OBE Studio, was opened on Monday, March 31, at the QE2 Centre. Hoyle had been unable to attend the ceremony due to work commitments, but sent a letter to Stewart, which was read at the event.

In his letter, GB News reports that Hoyle wrote: "I was very excited to hear that your brilliant career is being recognised in perpetuity by GB News. Not only is it an incredible honour to have a new studio opened today in your name at the QE2 Centre, but your face and reputation will forever be associated with the news in Westminster." The Speaker further added that Stewart’s journalism has inspired many young people to pursue a career in the field.

The GB News article also quotes Hoyle as saying: "Your hallmark has always been an unflappable delivery of news, in an instantly recognisable, authoritative, yet clear and determined voice – that always drew viewers to watch and listen, because it instinctively told them that something important had happened." Hoyle also expressed his personal appreciation for having been interviewed by Stewart before his retirement.

The new studio, GB News reports, is a testament to Stewart’s illustrious career and his contributions to the world of journalism. As a renowned broadcaster, Stewart has had a long and distinguished career, and this tribute from the Speaker of the House of Commons is a fitting recognition of his achievements.

In conclusion, the tribute paid by Sir Lindsay Hoyle to Alastair Stewart OBE is a well-deserved recognition of his contributions to journalism. As GB News reports, Stewart’s legacy continues to inspire new generations of journalists, and the new studio named after him will serve as a lasting reminder of his impact on the world of journalism.
