Indian Railways Tests New Reservation Chart System for Smoother Travel

Indian Railways to Introduce Major Change in Reservation Chart System

In a bid to enhance passenger convenience, Indian Railways is contemplating a significant overhaul of its reservation chart system. According to sources, the railways may prepare the reservation chart 24 hours prior to the departure of the train, a move that is expected to facilitate smoother travel planning for passengers. This development was reported by Times Now News, a leading Indian news outlet.

Currently, the reservation chart is prepared just four hours before the train’s departure. However, with the proposed change, passengers will be able to know well in advance whether their ticket is confirmed or on the waiting list. This will enable those with waitlisted tickets to make alternative arrangements if needed. The Times Now News report cited sources as stating that the railways has already initiated a trial for this in the Bikaner Division and a review of the trial will be conducted to implement the change across the entire railway network.

The proposed change is expected to have a minimal impact on passengers who plan to travel at the last minute and book Tatkal tickets. As per the report, "Since Tatkal tickets are booked 48 hours before the scheduled departure of trains, bringing out the full chart a day before won’t be an issue," an official was quoted as saying by The Times of India. However, there is still no clarity on whether the railways will release the second and third lists of passengers with confirmed reservations, as many passengers with confirmed tickets may cancel their booking within the last 24 hours.

According to Times Now News, the railways currently prepare reservation charts twice. The first one is prepared four hours before the scheduled departure time of the train, and the second is made between 30 minutes before the train’s departure. The proposed change is aimed at providing passengers with more accurate and timely information about their ticket status.

As reported by Times Now News, a source close to the development stated, "Let the pilot run be over and then decisions will be taken keeping in mind the best interest of passengers." The source further added that the railways will review the trial and make decisions based on its outcome.

The Indian Railways’ move to revamp its reservation chart system is seen as a passenger-friendly initiative. By providing more timely and accurate information, the railways aims to reduce confusion and uncertainty for passengers. As per the Times Now News report, the proposed change is expected to be implemented across the entire railway network, subject to a successful trial.

In related news, passengers can stay up-to-date with the latest developments on Indian Railways by checking the official website or mobile app for updates on their train’s reservation status. Additionally, passengers can also check with railway officials or customer support for more information on the proposed change and its impact on their travel plans.
