Ireland Hammer West Indies by 124 Runs in First ODI

According to Sky Sports, Paul Stirling became Ireland’s first batter to reach 10,000 runs across Tests, ODIs, and T20 internationals, marking a significant milestone in his career. He achieved this feat with a knock of 54 off 64 balls before being caught by Gudakesh Motie off the bowling of Roston Chase. As Sky Sports reports, Stirling’s fellow opener, Andy Balbirnie, went on to make 112 from 138 deliveries, including nine fours and four sixes.
The hosts’ batting lineup continued to impress, with Harry Tector chipping in with 56 runs. However, the West Indies bowlers managed to restrict Ireland to 303-6 at the end of their 50 overs. Alzarri Joseph claimed the wickets of Balbirnie and Tector, while Matthew Forde registered 3-68, removing ODI debutant Cade Carmichael, Lorcan Tucker, and George Dockrell.
As noted by Sky Sports, Ireland’s attack made light work of the tourists’ top order, paving the way for a commanding success. Barry McCarthy and Dockrell starred with the ball, taking crucial wickets to restrict the West Indies to 179 runs. After opener Evin Lewis was run out by Tector, McCarthy took three wickets, and seamer Thomas Mayes marked his ODI debut by clean bowling visiting captain Shai Hope for two.
The West Indies struggled to mount a significant challenge, with Justin Greaves offering some resistance with a knock of 35 before being dismissed by Josh Little.
