Jane McDonald Reveals Mortifying Error with James Martin
A humorous anecdote shared by Loose Women panellist Denise Welch on the White Wine Question Time podcast has shed light on a mortifying error made by Jane McDonald in her interactions with celebrated chef James Martin. According to an article in the Express, Jane McDonald recalled the embarrassing incident during which she mistook James Martin for a concierge or butler outside a property.
The Express reported that Denise Welch regaled listeners with the tale of how James once greeted Jane outside a property, only for her to mistake the ‘Saturday Morning’ favourite for a concierge or butler. The ex-Corrie star narrated: "And she just started to hand him all the bags, so he politely took several up many, many stairs, came back down, and she said, ‘You’ve left these ones’, as she swanned past him into the house." As noted by the Express, Jane admitted: "That’s terrible, isn’t it? I gave him a good tip. I did and I know…the funny thing is I’m really good mates with James now. And it’s lovely that he has that story to tell, and he makes the best cakes ever."
The Express noted that Jane McDonald jokingly attributed her fondness for indulgent treats to her potential weight gain, saying: "You see, I like a man who puts proper calories in a cake. I like fresh cream. I like a lot of butter. So it’s a good job that me and James never got together because I would be the size of Wakefield, never mind coming from it." As per the Express, Jane added that she would always be grateful to James, who once penned a culinary book titled ‘Butter: Comforting, Delicious, Versatile’, for bringing some of his best cakes for her to enjoy.
James Martin, one of the UK’s most beloved TV chefs, is known for his culinary prowess on programmes like Saturday Kitchen, Islands to Highlands, Home Comforts, and James Martin’s Great British Adventure, as reported by the Express. Meanwhile, Jane, who recently presented The British Soap Awards, confessed to "outrageously" flirting with a Coronation Street star during the event at Hackney Town Hall in London. The Express reported that Jane divulged details about the awards night on an episode of ITV’s Lorraine, admitting she was "starstruck" by the actor.
According to the Express, Jane remarked: "I was a bit starstruck and flirted outrageously. I did with Kit Green and even asked him if he bought handcuffs, but he didn’t answer me. He’s just beautiful, and it’s funny because he’s quite a villain in Corrie." The Express also noted that Jane expressed her admiration for Emmerdale’s Jeff Hordley, who portrays Cain Dingle in the popular ITV soap, calling him the "nicest man".
The British Soap Awards 2025 will air on Thursday, 5 June, at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX, as reported by the Express. The upcoming event has generated significant interest among soap opera fans, with Jane McDonald’s comments about the awards night adding to the excitement. As per the Express, Jane noted that villains "usually are the most lovely people" while expressing disappointment that Steve McFadden (Phil Mitchell) was unable to make it to the awards.
