Jeff Brazier Opens Up About Regrets on Celebrity Race Across the World
Jeff Brazier has spoken out about his experience on Celebrity Race Across the World, revealing that his competitive nature led him to feel "ashamed" for not fully embracing the journey with his son Freddy. The 45-year-old, who has been the primary carer for his two sons, Bobby and Freddy, since their mother Jade Goody passed away in 2009, took part in the show with Freddy, where they embarked on a 12,500-kilometre trek across South America.
According to the Daily Record, Jeff confessed that his determination to outdo fellow celebrities, including Kelly Brook and her husband Jeremy, Scott Mills and his husband Sam, and Kola Bokinni and his cousin Mary Ellen, meant he overlooked some incredible sights and experiences. He admitted that he felt he still had "something to prove," and as a result, sacrificed once-in-a-lifetime opportunities in pursuit of victory.
Speaking on the Inside A Mind podcast, Jeff expressed regret over his choices, stating, "I was so competitive, to the point where ……at the end… you think ‘Why didn’t I go to the Iguazú Falls? Why didn’t I go to Curitiba and do that incredible railway journey through the mountains?" The Daily Record reported that Jeff and Freddy tried to pursue the most direct route across South America, but ended up in third place overall, with Scott and Sam taking the crown.
Jeff has now vowed to change his approach, admitting that he’s trying to be more "playful" with his sons. He revealed that he’s been working on being more present and playful with Bobby and Freddy, stating, "I’d lost the ability to be playful with my kids… But actually being playful is a habit and a way of being … you can be in that headspace at any moment. Race helped me realise that I could return to being more playful, which is definitely something that I’ve worked on."
The Daily Record also reported that Jeff is currently dealing with a legal dispute with Jackiey Budden, his sons’ grandmother, who he allegedly attempted to prevent from seeing the boys, citing concerns over their mental health. When questioned about the recent attention on his family, Jeff simply stated, "All we really know how to do is to pull together and be there for one another…and I think that’s what we do best, and that’s what all good families do."
Jeff’s experience on Celebrity Race Across the World has clearly had a profound impact on his life, and he’s now focused on being more present and playful with his sons.
