Kerry Katona Admits Regret Over Split from Brian McFadden
Kerry Katona has spoken candidly about her past marriage to Brian McFadden, admitting that she wishes they could have remained friends after their split in 2004. The couple, who tied the knot in 2002 and share daughters Molly and Lilly-Sue, have had a strained relationship since their divorce.
According to an article in the Daily Star, Kerry drew comparisons between her situation and that of Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow, who have managed to co-parent their children and maintain a friendly relationship post-split. “I was sad to read about Chris Martin and Dakota Johnson’s split, I thought they made a nice couple,” Kerry wrote in her New! Magazine column. “It’s amazing how Chris and his ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow have managed to co-parent their kids and stay friends. I take my hat off to anyone who can do that.”
The Daily Star reports that Kerry wishes she and Brian could have followed a similar path. “I wish Brian and I could have stayed friends,” she said. “Molly went to watch him at a festival last week and I would have loved to have gone with her. Brian’s fiancée is lovely and they’ve got a gorgeous little one. It would be great to have a better relationship.”
Kerry has previously spoken about Brian being the only man she has ever truly loved. However, Brian revealed in a 2007 interview with the Independent that he hadn’t initially considered a long-term future with Kerry. He explained that life had simply taken over, and he realised that Kerry wasn’t the woman he wanted to spend his life with.
The couple’s split left Kerry heartbroken, and she has spoken publicly about the pain and guilt she felt following their divorce. In 2019, she shared in her column that she remembered feeling “shattered” when their marriage broke down, and that it took her a considerable amount of time to “get over that.”
Kerry has since moved on, marrying Mark Croft and having two more children, Heidi and Max. She also has a youngest child, DJ, with her third husband, the late George Kay. Despite her current relationship status, Kerry has expressed a desire to have a better relationship with Brian, particularly for the sake of their daughters.
