Kid Cudi Testifies in Sean Combs Trial, Describing Break-in and Car Arson

The trial of Sean Combs, also known as Diddy, continued on Thursday with testimony from musician Scott Mescudi, who records as Kid Cudi. Mescudi took the witness stand to describe his brief relationship with Cassie Ventura, a key witness in the government’s sex trafficking and racketeering case against Combs.
According to NPR, Mescudi told the court that in 2010, Combs asked him to record a few songs with Ventura, who was dating Combs at the time. Mescudi said he and Ventura started working together as friends but soon developed feelings for each other. Ventura allegedly confided in Mescudi in November 2011 that Combs was physically abusive and they were no longer together.
Mescudi described two incidents that occurred around the same time. In December 2011, Ventura allegedly called him, scared, saying Combs had found out about their relationship and was heading to Mescudi’s house. Mescudi picked her up and took her to a hotel. Later, Combs’ employee, Capricorn Clark, called Mescudi, saying Combs and an associate had forced Ventura into a car and driven to Mescudi’s home.
As reported by NPR, Mescudi rushed to his house and called Combs on the drive. Combs allegedly told Mescudi they needed to talk, and when Mescudi responded that he was on his way home, Combs said he was waiting for him. When Mescudi arrived, there was no one at his residence, but he discovered unwrapped holiday presents on his kitchen counter and found his dog locked in the bathroom.
The rapper filed a police report about the break-in. During cross-examination, Mescudi told the court he had left his front door unlocked and there were no signs of forced entry or damages to his home. However, he said he believed Combs had something to do with the incident.
Mescudi also testified about a car arson incident in January 2012. He received a call from his dog sitter alerting him that his Porsche was on fire in the driveway. When he arrived home, he found the burnt remains of a molotov cocktail sitting next to his scorched vehicle.
The NPR reported that during Mescudi’s testimony, prosecutors showed several images of the car. A hole had been cut into its roof to presumably insert the burning bottle. The red leather lining of the driver’s seat and door had been charred and blackened by smoke.
Mescudi believed Combs was lying when he denied involvement in the car arson. He testified that at the end of the meeting with Combs, the two men shook hands and he seized the opportunity to ask Combs about the burnt car. Combs allegedly answered, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
The trial of Sean Combs is ongoing, with Combs pleaded not guilty to all charges against him.
