Kris Boyd Challenges Perception: Is the ‘Meaningless’ Rangers Narrative Overblown?

Rangers’ Kris Boyd Urges Team to Dismiss ‘Meaningless Game’ Narrative Ahead of Aberdeen Clash

Rangers are currently trailing city rivals Celtic by 13 points at the summit of the Scottish Premiership, with their attention firmly focused on the European front. However, according to Kris Boyd, the Ibrox club’s former striker, the upcoming match against Aberdeen should not be viewed as a dead rubber.

In an interview with SunSport, Boyd expressed his concerns about the ‘meaningless game’ mentality, stating that it will "never be accepted at Ibrox". The Scottish football pundit believes that Sunday’s match at Pittodrie provides the perfect opportunity for Rangers to build momentum, particularly in light of their Europa League commitments. "Clearly, the Europa League is the current priority for Gers, and the first-leg draw gives them a fighting chance in Spain," Boyd said.

However, Boyd emphasised that the match against Aberdeen is far from insignificant. "I can’t get my head around the view that what happens against Aberdeen doesn’t matter," he said. "The ‘meaningless game’ mentality will never be accepted at Ibrox. This is a huge fixture for Barry Ferguson and his players at Aberdeen. They have a chance to build on the feel-good factor brought about by Thursday’s display against Bilbao." Boyd’s comments were reported by Rangers Review, a leading source of news and updates on the Scottish football club.

Rangers Review has learned that Boyd’s concerns are not unfounded. The Light Blues have a history of struggling against Aberdeen at Pittodrie, having lost 2-1 on their last visit. Goals from Nicky Devlin and Shayden Morris condemned a side managed by Philippe Clement to defeat. Ferguson will look to avoid a repeat scenario on Sunday at lunchtime, with Rangers seeking to build on their recent Europa League success.

Boyd’s comments highlight the importance of maintaining a positive narrative around the team. "Yes, the title has gone. Yes, the Europa League is now dominating everyone’s thoughts. If they go and lose at Pittodrie, nobody will say, ‘It’s OK, they have a huge game coming up on Thursday night’," he said. "Do you think the Rangers fans spending cash to travel north will accept that kind of attitude? Any kind of defeat will change the narrative around this team yet again. Anyone labelling Sunday’s Pittodrie trip as meaningless needs a reality check."

Rangers Review understands that Boyd’s sentiments are shared by many within the Rangers camp. The team will be eager to respond to Boyd’s comments and demonstrate their commitment to securing a positive result against Aberdeen. As the team prepares to take to the pitch at Pittodrie, Boyd’s words serve as a timely reminder of the importance of maintaining a winning mentality. According to Rangers Review, this mindset will be crucial in the team’s quest for success, both domestically and in Europe.

Rangers Review will continue to provide extensive coverage of Rangers’ upcoming match against Aberdeen, including pre-match analysis, live updates, and post-match reaction. Stay tuned for the latest news and updates on the Scottish Premiership and the Europa League.
