Lahore Launches Traffic Kiosks to Ease Licensing and Public Access
In a bid to improve public service delivery and working conditions for traffic wardens, the Lahore Traffic Police has launched a new initiative, beginning with the installation of high-tech traffic kiosks at major city intersections. The The Express Tribune reported that the first kiosk has been installed at Afshan Chowk on Mall Road and offers facilities such as motorbike licence issuance and driving licence collection.
According to Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Dr Athar Waheed, the move is aimed at bringing traffic services closer to citizens while protecting on-duty personnel from harsh weather conditions. "All traffic-related services will be accessible at these kiosks, making the system more citizen-friendly," Dr Waheed said, as reported by The Express Tribune. The kiosks are equipped with air conditioning, drinking water, and rest areas for wardens, allowing them to work in a safer and more comfortable environment.
The initiative, as reported by The Express Tribune, is inspired by models used in developed countries and is being rolled out gradually. After Afshan Chowk, kiosks will be installed in other parts of Lahore, including Mall Road, Gulberg, and Iqbal Town. The project is being monitored by SP Headquarters Mansoor-ul-Hassan under directives from the Chief Minister of Punjab.
Each kiosk will also be fitted with a loudspeaker system for traffic control announcements. Traffic wardens will be deployed around the clock in three shifts. The The Express Tribune reported that the kiosks will provide a range of services, including motorbike licence issuance and driving licence collection.
The Lahore Traffic Police’s initiative has been welcomed by citizens, who are eager to see an improvement in traffic services. The installation of traffic kiosks is expected to reduce congestion at traffic offices and provide a more efficient service to the public. As The Express Tribune reported, the CTO said that the initiative is part of a broader effort to improve traffic management in Lahore.
The The Express Tribune also reported that the project is being implemented in phases, with the first phase focusing on the installation of kiosks at major intersections. The second phase will see the expansion of services to other parts of the city. According to The Express Tribune, the Lahore Traffic Police is committed to providing a better service to the public and improving the working conditions of traffic wardens. The installation of traffic kiosks is a significant step towards achieving this goal.
