Arvid Lindblad Tops Formula 2 Practice Session in Barcelona
A Formula 2 practice session in Barcelona was topped by Arvid Lindblad, with the Campos Racing driver setting a lap time of 1m21.147s. According to Formula Scout, Lindblad’s lap time was three tenths quicker than second-placed Alex Dunne.
The session was not without incident, as Formula Scout reported that Alex Dunne and Victor Martins were involved in another collision, just days after their crash in Monaco. The incident occurred as Dunne was approaching the pit speed limit line, with Martins appearing to dramatically slow. Dunne was forced to lock his front tyres and hit the rear of the ART car, breaking his front wing and causing damage to the rear of Martins’ car.
Prior to the incident, Dunne had held top spot with a lap time of 1m27.425s, some four tenths quicker than second-placed Gabriele Mini. However, running was limited for the opening minutes of the session, with drivers opting to save tyres and not run in the first 15 minutes.
As Formula Scout noted, the circuit had hosted testing three months ago, and drivers would be already accustomed to the track and the challenges it poses. As the clock ticked down into the second half of the session, Lindblad took to the top of the timesheets with his 1m21.147s lap, a time that would not be beaten.
The session was also eventful for the Rodin car of Amaury Cordeel, who ran into the gravel trap at turn 9 and later stalled at the pit lane exit on his final practice start. Championship leader Luke Browning appeared to struggle in the opening session, finishing 19th with a time of 1m29.182s, two seconds off leader Lindblad.
At the end of the session, very few drivers managed to improve on their lap times. Gabriele Mini took up third, while Richard Verschoor and Kush Maini rounded out the top five. Behind the top five came the ART Grand Prix pairing of Ritomo Miyata and Martins, followed by third-placed in the championship Leonardo Fornaroli.
Rounding out the top 10 was Hitech driver Dino Beganovic and the MP Motorsport car of Oliver Goethe, with nine different teams in the top 10. The full results of the practice session can be seen below:
