Littler Quits Tournament, Stands by Anti-Country Vow

Luke Littler Withdraws from European Darts Grand Prix Amidst Germany Boycott

In a move that was widely expected, Luke Littler has withdrawn from this weekend’s European Darts Grand Prix in Sindelfingen, Germany. The 18-year-old, known as “The Nuke,” had been scheduled to take part in the latest PDC European Tour event but has opted not to participate in the tournament.

According to reports from TalkSPORT, Littler has stood by his vow not to return to Germany before the European Championship later this year. This decision comes after he was subjected to a hostile reception from the crowd at night nine of the Premier League in Berlin.

Littler and Daryl Gurney have been replaced in the draw by reserves Martin Lukeman and William O’Connor. Michael Smith has moved up to become the 16th seed in Littler’s absence, while Gary Anderson is the defending champion after clinching last year’s title back in April 2024.

The withdrawal is not a surprise, given Littler’s comments after the German Darts Grand Prix in Munich last month. In a post on social media, he revealed that his semi-final loss to Gian van Veen would be his last match in Germany before the European Championships in Dortmund. Littler wrote on Instagram: “Shouldn’t have been in Munich, but had to play anyway. Next one in Germany for me is Dortmund and I am glad to say that.”

This move has sparked speculation that Littler may also snub the World Cup of Darts in June, where he is currently in line to partner Luke Humphries for England. If Littler were to withdraw from the event, Stephen Bunting would be his replacement.

It is worth noting that there are three more European Tour events scheduled to take place in Germany before the European Championships. However, fans can expect to see Littler on the EuroTour again before October, with the Netherlands hosting the next event later this month. The Dutch Darts Championship is set to take place in Rosmalen between May 23 and 25.

As quoted in the original article from TalkSPORT, Littler’s decision to boycott German tournaments has raised eyebrows in the darts community. With the European Championships in Dortmund fast approaching, it remains to be seen how Littler’s decision will impact his form and his partnership with Luke Humphries.

Littler’s German hiatus has been well-documented, and it seems that he is willing to stick to his guns. As reported by TalkSPORT, Littler’s comments suggest that he is not willing to compromise on his decision, and it will be interesting to see how this develops in the coming months.

In related news, there have been reports that Littler has been told not to snub the World Cup of Darts. England’s potential line-up for the tournament is still uncertain, and fans will be keeping a close eye on developments.

For now, Littler’s focus will be on preparing for the European Championships in Dortmund. With his current form and confidence, he will undoubtedly be one to watch in the tournament.
