Liverpool Weather Forecast: Cloudy Day Ahead Before Brighter Afternoon
A cloudy day is expected to blanket Liverpool on bank holiday Monday, May 5, before the weather brightens up in the afternoon, according to the Met Office. The city can expect bright or sunny spells to develop around 6 pm, bringing a welcome respite from the overcast conditions.
The Met Office has forecast a cool start to the day, with temperatures feeling chilly, especially in coastal areas. However, as winds ease, it will start to feel more pleasant, with maximum temperatures reaching 15°C. This is slightly higher than Sunday’s temperatures but still below average for this time of year.
Met Office deputy chief meteorologist Tony Wisson said, “We reach our coldest temperatures on Sunday and Monday. Then from Tuesday onwards we’re likely to see a very gradual increase in temperatures day on day, though not to the levels of warmth we’ve seen recently.” He added that “high pressure will continue to dominate the UK weather next week, bringing largely dry weather and variable cloud amounts.”
The cloudy conditions are expected to clear this evening, leaving a sunny end to the day, followed by a dry and generally clear night. Tuesday is forecast to be a brighter day, with highs of 15°C. The Met Office’s North West forecast also suggests that Tuesday will be a dry and settled day, with plenty of strong sunshine developing and temperatures reaching 16°C.
This comes after a spell of warm weather last week, which saw temperatures soar to 26°C in the region. The Met Office announced that April was the sunniest on record for the UK since 1910, with more than 47% more sunshine hours than the long-term meteorological average. England experienced its sunniest April on record, while Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland recorded their second sunniest April.
The mean temperature for April was 9.6°C, which is 1.7°C above average for the UK, making it the third warmest April for mean temperature since records began in 1884. The warmest April was recorded in 2011, with a mean temperature of 10.7°C.
According to the Met Office, the high mean temperatures were chiefly influenced by higher-than-average daytime temperatures, though it was also warmer than average overnight. All four UK nations recorded a mean temperature of at least 1.6°C above their respective long-term meteorological averages, with all UK nations recording their third warmest April for mean temperature since 1884.
